I had my first weekly appt today (35w2d) and had my GBS test done; OB also did a cervical check.
I've heard that some drs don't do cervical checks until labor.
I haven't decided if I like it or not that my OB does (do I want to know about my progression or lack thereof?)

I think I was 35-36 weeks when my midwife did cervical checks at appts. She gave me the choice though and I wanted to know. Do you not have a choice? You definitely should!!

@Coco Bee: I'm sure he wouldn't if I declined, but I found out that baby boy is engaged and cervix is thinning.... which could also mean nothing, but I don't want to get my hopes up about not going past due date. etc. And then be frustrated in the coming weeks if I haven't progressed at all.

my doc didn't start until i was 38 weeks. She said she didn't want to start until I was full-term, but it seems like all docs are different.

Had one at 36 weeks per request, again at 40 weeks (because my MW lives oot & wanted to know if she should stick around) , & then when I went into labor at 41+4.
I've known tons of moms that just end up frustrated because they'll make progress, then stop, or make lots of progress (like 4 cm) and then go overdue.
I've even decided next time once I hit 6cm in labor I don't want any more checks.

I had 1 prior to induction, but they did a cervical length check with my BPP's (I had 2 per week from like 36 weeks on) so we knew my cervix wasn't shortening.

My doctor starts doing them at 36 weeks, though I also had them done at 28 weeks and 32 weeks due to bleeding.

i got one at 38.5 weeks... and then baby came a few days later 
it was not as uncomfortable as i feared!

@mrsjyw: my MW was totally honest with me that just because I was showing progress didn't mean that I would go any sooner. It is hard to remember that though! I was at 3 cm for three weeks!

My OB started doing them at 36 weeks. She's been very clear that progress doesn't mean labor and that she doesn't plan on making any predictions after each appointment. So that is keeping me from reading too much into them.

Nope, no cervical checks here! They don't even offer them and I'm not sure they would do one without medical justification if requested. My first was when I was in labour and showed up at the hospital to deliver our baby.
If we don't have our next LO in Australia, I will be declining any cervical checks that are offered as I find them unnecessary and uncomfortable.

I didn't have any until I was in labour. My midwife had offered to do one and do a membrane sweep if I went past my due date, but I went into labour the day after due date!

it's kind of hazy, but i think my doctor did them starting at 38 weeks. charlie was born on his due date so i got 1-2 checks? olive i didn't get any since she was born before 38 weeks.

I had my first at 36 wks and have had one every week since. But like you said, it really doesn't mean much!

My midwives won't do them unless I request them, including in labor. I doubt I'll want a cervical check at any point--it's too much of a mind game--so that works for me!

I had the choice, and I opted for one at 38 weeks. I declined at the next few appointments. I won't have them in the future.

Only at 38 weeks (not dilated) and did a membrane sweep at the same time.
