Ha! I have to laugh because we are in the same boat right now! We've mentioned a few names we like and have gotten so many opinions...it's really ridiculous how people just blurt out whatever they're thinking without even trying to put it nicely! I mean geez!! So, my DH said enough...we're coming up with names that we like and not sharing until baby finally gets here!! Even though part of me would like "approval", I'm kinda over the rudeness.

My parents aren't huge fans of the name, but they don't really dislike it. They just liked the one we were considering before better. But we're not changing it, because we like it and it fits us, and that's what matters.

We kept our LO's name a secret and didn't tell anyone what her english name was until after she was born. My parents got to give her her Korean name.

We didn't have options, we only had THE name. Luckily everyone loved it, but we name after deceased family members so I'm pretty sure they'd like it for sentimental reasons no matter what.

But if they didn't like it I'd use it anyway. Not their baby, not their decision.

We're with @chopsuey119 - we're keeping the American name a secret but have asked our parents to choose the Korean name.

We told them our short list after making them promise to keep their opinions to themselves. We didn't finalize LO's name until she was born. Family members have told us that the name we chose was their favorite of the possibilities now that it's her name. They may be saying that just to be nice, but it sort of sucks because we'll probably use one of the other options if we have another girl. In retrospect, we should have just waited until she was born and only shared the name we gave her.

They all loved the name so much. I think if they didn't they wouldn't say anything, though.

My mom was not the biggest fan of our baby name. She liked some of the other names on the list better, but she's been calling the baby by her name so I think it's grown on her.

My husband's family was more accepting, but I think that's because my husband has a very unique name so they are used to nontraditional names.

Both sets of parents really didn't like DS1's name, and were very open in expressing their opinions on it. Now they totally adore his name and thinks it's absolutely fitting of his personality.

Because of our experience with DS1, we told them that we didnt want to hear their opinions on DS2's name, and they pretty much obliged us.

We're only TTC but in some passing conversation named our top contender in our every changing names list for a boy and FIL said "What?! He'll get made fun of..." No it's no Pilot Inspektor. It's a very common top 20 boy name...

SO accidentally told his family our pick for a boy and they all hated it. I won't tell them our girl's name for fear they'll hate that too.

My parents know our picks for a boy and a girl and they loved them.

But of course I'm now re-thinking our boys name. *sighs*

@sorrycharlie: I even mentioned it to DH last night... but it is a mouthful with our last name - starts with an M and ends with and R .

@GreenThumb: aww what a bummer! our last name begins with a G, so it'll be very alliterate LOL but i think it flows.

@sorrycharlie: I love Graham, too! I know a couple who named their little boy that and I think it's a great name.

My mom doesn't like a lot of names we liked LOL but she did like the name we ended up picking. My MIL doesn't like when the middle name doesn't sound "right" to her with the middle name. Luckily, neither of them were pushy with us at all.

We told our families right away and everyone seemed to like her name. The day she was born My husband spoke to his sister on the phone and she said "oh so you didn't change her name? I was thinking you probably would since naming her after someone just isn't fair to her. She's named Libby-Jane after the grandma my husband was closest with (that ironically did not get along with his sister) and after my grandma. There's two other children in my husband's family that have Libby in their name but only as middle names. We had an aunt say to us "well that's not original, don't you think you're copying us" to which my husband replied "nope we're outdoing you instead :)" I don't understand where people think its their right to voice concern about a name you love.

We have not decided on a name yet, but I did tell my mom our short list of about 5 names. She said she loved them all (not a surprise, I don’t think she would be honest if she hated a name we loved), but did make a couple of good points about our names. One name on our list was “Mina”, and she said that LO would probably run into most people calling her “Nina” since that is the more popular name. She also thought people would have trouble pronouncing/spelling the name “Phillipa”. Since I have a name that 90% of the general public butchers every single time they say it, it’s actually super important to me that LO have an easy name, because correcting people gets old, *fast*. So, that was helpful advice from mom.

We aren't telling anyone the names we've picked for the reasons people above stated. I don't want other peoples opinions clouding our judgement. It's killing my in-laws, they really want to know what we've picked.
