Our hospital offers a free tour of the birthing center. It was pretty neat, they show you the path that you'll be taking, from walking in the door, to your delivery room and what everything in the room is, and then where you'll be staying after LO is born. They also take you to the food so your husband will know where to go. It made me a lot more comfortable because I knew what I was getting into... kind of.

@plantains: I think everyone on our tour was pretty freaked out by how real it was, lol. Nobody talked throughout the entire thing, and nobody even asked any questions. It was pretty weird.

You can take a tour any time, but they also give you the full tour during the childbirth class, so we just did it then. It made me feel more prepared to see what the labor rooms were like and to meet a bunch of the nurses. I would advise anyone to do it!

I was going to. Then I ended up in L&D at 30 weeks, 32 weeks, and 34 weeks with reduced fetal movemnt so I was a pro by the time I got there for my c-section lol.

I didn't take a tour of our hospital. I knew where labor and delivery was, so that's all I cared about!

I probably will. My doctor has privledges at two different hospitals so I want to tour them both before making a decision where to go.

We took a tour a few weeks ago of our hospital. They walked you through exactly where to go when the day comes, what rooms you start out in, and then what room you move into for L&D and discussed the various options they have for L&D (Reiki practitioners, acupressure/acupuncture, etc.) as well as the birthing tubs and showers (one in each room), the birthing balls, etc. They explained the wireless fetal monitoring, and also talked a lot about security measures. Then we got to see some newborns in the nursery, so cute! They didn’t show us the cafeteria, because they offer free room service to all the L&D rooms.

At first I was intent on doing the tour, but my OB delivers at two different hospitals so I dont know which hospital I will give birth at, and it just seemed too much to go for a tour at both hospitals. So now I wont be doing a tour.

We are getting the tour during our birthing class, so yeah, we'll get one. I know the ins and outs already but dh is the one who will really need to know where we're going and where he needs to be!

I did for mt first pregnancy then ended up at a different hospital anyways (they had no room for me when my OB decided to do my c section 4 days early) My second pregnancy I just followed the signs the morning I got there. When you big and pregnant people tend to help you find your way

@MamaMoose: That's a good idea! We only had the one hospital, but it's the best around here so I had no worries. Plus, hubby and I were both born there
@yoursilverlining: Wow, your hospital sounds awesome! I would have loved to have accupuncture! Our hospital only offers free food for the husbands for one meal, then they have to get the rest on their own.
@plantains: Good. Hopefully it won't sink in, that's a scary time!
@Mrsbells: How are you picking then? I think it would be nice to be able to go compare the two.
@Oceanis723: When we went for our class a pregnant women came in because she was in labor. But since we were all were pregnant and had a big belly, the guy just assumed she was there for the tour and pointed her to everyone else waiting.

@artbee: Our hospital did the same thing & it made me SO MUCH more comfortable & I felt fairly prepared for what I'd be like so I didn't have to worry about that extra stuff.

@artbee: It actually depends more on my OB, when i got into labor I will call her, she lives near me and we are both closer to the first hospital, but if she is already at the 2nd hospital delivering someone else then I will go to the 2nd hospital. its only about 10 mins apart. I like both hospitals, they both have their pros and cons.

@artbee: Everyone was super quiet when I went on my tour, too. I was only at ~7 months and everyone else was just about ready to give birth, so when the tour guide asked if we'd installed our car seats yet, I was the only one who didn't raise my hand. I got The Look from the other silent pregnant mamas, and got it again when the hubs & I waxed enthusiastic about the room service menu. Ah, fun times.

I toured last weekend, and it traumatized me tbh :P. I had second thoughts about everything, but the more time passes I know our baby will be in the best hands possible.

Yes, it helped me choose between 2 hospitals. We really liked having an idea of what to expect and where to go, it helped reduce a little of my anxiety.

Yes! We got a tour of our hospital as part of our birthing class. I'm really glad that now I can picture everything, and we know exactly where to go when we arrive. The hospital was great, but the tour also reminded me of how much I hate hospitals. ...it made me more convinced of my plan to labor at home for as long as possible.

Our hospital offers tours as part of the classes, but my practice offers one, too, just for their patients. I think the one our practice gives is more in-depth, so we'll probably at least do that one, if not both.

we did it a few sundays ago and i'm glad we did. 1. it definitely made things feel more real! we were getting so close! 2. i didn't take the lamaze class since i know i'm getting a c-section, so it was nice taking a tour of the building and knowing exactly where to go. 3. i heard they built a new maternity ward (i've seen the old one), so i wanted to check out the new one. 4. they did go into a bit what happens with a c-section, so i liked that.

We did the tour at 30 weeks, it was the same weekend of our childbirth class. While we were there it was super quite and only had 1 mother on the ward! Turns out Janaury is the slowest month for Maternity!

We are planning on taking a tour, not sure how our hospital offers it but I'll be looking into it. I'm a planner so this is def what I need! We also need to practice a route to the hospital bc DH nor I know exactly which exits/roads to take (its downtown), so that is a must!

@teaberry: I also went early, I did all my classes early. Glad.I did too, I hated walking when I was super pregnant. And I also felt like everyone was so judgy. I was sitting there thinking, we're all going through the same.thing, we should.be supporting each other!

@artbee: I was already freaking out about being a bit of a distance away from the hospital, but just seeing where we would be scared the crap out of me. I've never been admitted to a hospital before, and I think that played a big part in it all. I think I am mostly over it though. When I think about the well-being of our son I chill out.

Well, I work in NICU, so I know my way around, and what to expect. I keep wondering if I should take DH and walk him through where to find things though ... I will ask him if he wants me to take him on a tour, I am sure no one will object to me taking him around.

We did a tour as part of the classes we took.

We also did the tour at the end of the classes. Nothing super interesting, just here's where go you when you come in, you can park here, etc.
