@Foodnerd81: That's super cute! I hope it works out for you!!

So there are professional pictures, but I feel like having your kids be able to DO something or play with something tends to work out better than trying to get them to pose.

@bubblegum: Lighting is absolutely key! I have trouble taking nice pictures in my house unless it's in the kitchen or the master bedroom, because the rest of the house just doesn't get any good light. If I'm doing pictures, I ALWAYS try to do them in the morning because the light is good and my kids are in a good mood. After naps are always hit or miss, mood-wise, for us, and I'm starting to lose the light. Good luck!

@bubblegum: Yeah, I'm going to attempt to do some pictures this weekend too. By the time I get home after work, it's too dark!

@bubblegum: Also, I would advise you not to have your heart set on a perfect picture with the two of them. You might have better luck just hoping for a good picture of DS and a good picture of DD, and it's a bonus if you happen to have a good picture of them together!

@bubblegum: Something else that we did to help with lighting was hanging white lights from LO's wall and putting a white sheet over it. We put white sheets and blankets on his bed. We had DS1 lay down, then put a sleeping DS2 on top of him and called his name. Here are some others from that shoot as well as last year's photo in front of a red barn.

Thank you! In all fairness, DH took them! I just had the concept in my head and brought it to life.

The top one is my favorite. It was after DS1 had a meltdown, and DS2 fell asleep after the original photoshoot. I calmed DS1 down while DS2 fell asleep on DH, and was like, let's just try this one more time now that he's sleeping...and it caught THE. BEST. PHOTO.

So keep trying even if it doesn't seem like it's working. The more natural you make it for them, the better the photo will be.

@2PeasinaPod: Definitely agree about making it natural and keep trying. I captured this photo after I had basically given up.

@Adira: So sweet! It's when you're not trying that they give the cutest poses. I have a sweet one of the boys reading together in a rocker too!

I just did a few photos today actually! I put the chair next to a large window, and gave him Christmas lights. He liked playing with them!

I took these two years ago. The lighting wasn't the greatest but it worked! I did the set up and then took a lot of pictures in rapid succession and picked the best. I find that when I use the burst option on my phone I tend to get a few good ones.

These were fun. I put the kids in our darkest corner of the house and gave them some white lights to play with. I had to experiment with other lighting to get the effect I wanted, but was pretty happy with how these turned out. T has his pacifier in because it was the only way I could keep him from eating the lights.
