It's a little of both. He likes to do laundry everyday, I think it can wait until once a week. He also isn't very good at laundry and will someone get stains on things after they are clean! So, I end up washing my important items separately, but will put jeans, sweats in with his.

Combined. I don't get it either why anyone would want to do it separate!

Combined! Currently hubs (amazing) is taking the lead on laundry and I couldn't be happier. I assume once I am on maternity leave and home all day this will become my task =) enjoying it while it lasts though.

Combined. The only time I will separate is if I'm bleaching his white tees and undies.

Combined...there are a few things I put in a separate hamper since they don't get dried, etc & I don't expect DH to remember what does & doesn't go in the dryer.

Separate. I like doing laundry. Before LO I used to do loads by color (all my reds, all my purples, blues & greens). I'm a tad bit obsessive when it comes to laundry. I also used to not let anyone else touch the machines. I had to after LO was born cause I couldn't climb the stairs.

Separate. I wash mine with LOs once a week and DH has so many clothes he only does laundry once a month!

Combined. We have just toss everything in the same hamper in our room anyway. I've been taking the lead on it lately because he's spending long hours studying, but we go back and forth. He's even gotten pretty good about remembering which of my stuff doesn't go in the dryer. I definitely separate a little more carefully than him but neither of us are all that fussy about it.

Combined... we only have one hamper, so we just wash all our stuff as it gets full!

I voted separate, but we wash together maybe...10% of the time. I think for DH and me it's just more convenient to do it seperately.
1)We were 32 before we married, so we'd been taking care of ourselves for a long time and DH is used to doing his own.
2)DH washes really often because he probably only has...5 work outfits, so he's constantly laundering and ironing them. I have a ton of clothes, so I could go 3 weeks without washing if I wanted.
3) I don't want it to end up being a chore that I as the wife am supposed to do, so I don't want to ruin what we have going on. =) I have too many married friends who do all the laundry and then have to nag their husbands to get him to just put away his own stuff. I'm not doing that. Ever.
4) DH dries everything in the dryer, whereas at least half my stuff has to be hung to dry, and I don't expect him to remember which things I don't like dried. He dried some of my stretch maternity pants on high heat and they were SO TIGHT after. =(
We also have only 1 laundry hamper, but we just pick out our own stuff when we go to do a load.

We are mostly combined, but I'll most likely have to wash Baby Girl's stuff separately. T comes home with all kinds of weird dirt, pollen, ticks, etc. on his clothes, and even in the summer I don't like to throw my stuff in with his. There's nothing like finding a burr on your underwear when you go to put it on.

Separate. Honestly, I hate doing laundry so I don't want to do any more than I have to! And I don't trust DH to do mine without shrinking anything, haha.

separate, DH is very particular on how things get washed and dried.

I do all the laundry, his mine and ours. If it were up to DH he'd be putting whites in with darks, and towels in with clothes. That drives me nuts.
Although a few years ago, I remember I had an ex (who I lived with) that for some reason didn't like the way I did his laundry. So I said "Fine do you OWN!" and I only did mine. Hence....why he is an EX!

We wash our laundry together unless he's been out at the farm then I was those clothes separately.

Separate. He does his, I do mine. We married in our mid-thirties and have been doing our own laundry for a long time. Besides, he likes to dry everything on super low heat and it drives me nuts because the few times he's put one of my loads in the dryer some things come out still a little damp.

Definitely separate.
We each do our own laundry. In addition I have a lot of items that cannot be dried so its just easier this way. I never do DH's laundry. Ever.

Combined. I am particular with how laundry is done so i do it for us. Personally, i think it's a little weird doing it separately -- what a waste of water!

@Anagram: this. Agree with every point. Except I married young- but we both grew up in households where we were responsible for our own laundry.

@Freckles: it's not a waste for us since him doing his laundry fills the entire washer, as does mine! I would have to wash less than half my clothes if we were combining!
eggplant / 11716 posts
@Freckles: for us, it's not a waste because our washer has settings for different size loads. We both usually have totally full loads, but if there's something I want to wash seperately, I just do a "small" load.

@Mrs. Pen: I guess it depends on how each household does laundry. I run loads for white/diapers, delicates/workout clothes, and coloured clothing. If i only did it for my clothes, we'd probably be running a lot more cycles! I am responsible for running the laundry and he does all the folding.

This is something that drives me a little crazy, because when I do laundry I do it all together, but when DH does it he just does his...grrr!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
I do it all so I combine them. Last time DH did laundry all our whites turned blue
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Freckles: we do it the same way. We both do laundry, each others laundry and LO's laundry.

We have separate hampers, so we usually wash separate too. We're not opposed to combining them, it just usually works better this way.
pear / 1693 posts
I do all the laundry combined. I'm particular about how I dry a lot of things so I don't want anyone else to touch it.
pear / 1672 posts
DH likes to do his own because he thinks I don't do his correctly. Plus he will do it weekly. I hate laundry and don't do it until I really have to. We both do LO's when needed.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Separate. DH doesn't like the way I wash clothes, so he does hos own laundry. He refuses to do mine since he says my clothes are already ruined.
coconut / 8472 posts
We do it separately. It just kind of happened that way. We have separate hampers, and I'm not big on other people (even DH) touching my dirty underwear. Maybe I'm just weird, haha.
Also, DH is very particular about his laundry and his dress shirts (so I don't want to deal with how he wants them done) and he can make AWFUL laundry mistakes, so I don't trust him with my clothes. For example, he washed blue bathmats that had never been washed before with older yellow ones. And they turned green. He's also shrunk things and turned things blue and pink.
