My in laws and I are totally incompatible in the food department. They like to graze all day. Often they announce at 4pm that dinner isn't necessary because they snacked too much.

You can't cancel dinner! I'm a balanced meal, menu planning kind of person. A box of crackers is not dinner (for me). I prefer to know what I'm eating and when. I get it from my family that does it to an obsessive degree.

I need three (ok maybe four) meals a day. I am fine buying and prepping (& cleaning up) my own meals but I know they don't like me to do it. I'm so glad a cafe opened down the street so I can keep running out for coffee (& a salad & soup).

I won't even go into our differences in food choices. I was just so bummed to hear the Christmas Eve menu. I can't just make another dish because when I try MIL shuts me down. She likes my food about as much as I like hers. I think she's afraid she'll have to politely choke down whatever I make.

How do you survive when you have different eating styles?
