I just baked bread for the first time on my own. I was always intimidated thinking it was difficult, but it was very easy! At least the white bread recipe I used
Do you bake your own bread? Any favorites?

I used to all the time! I haven't lately because we don't eat that many sandwiches these days. I loved the Frugal Girl's wheat bread recipe.

Oh yes! But we don't eat sandwich bread often so normally it's more French bread, artisan bread, rosemary bread, rolls, etc.
There's nothing better than the smell of homemade bread in one's kitchen!

I've never tried, I'm not much of a baker.
Did you use a oven or bread maker? (Shows how much I know about making bread! lol)

I used to all the time but life has been far too crazy lately, there really is nothing better than the smell of fresh baked bread!

nope but maybe this fall I'll try! is it more cost effective than bought? i.e., would a loaf of wheat be cheaper to make than 2.99 to buy?

@PurplePumps: Just the oven, put it in a bread loaf, had like 5 ingredients, easy peasy!
@sorrycharlie: for the kind I make, I think me and my mom figured it was about fifty cents which made two loaves!

@Boheme: I was too, but seriously...the recipe I have is a pack of yeast, flour, a little sugar, a little butter and potato water. Mix, let rise, throw in a pan, bake. Done!

@Bao: I baked my first loaf of bread last weekend! It was a wholemeal soda bread with pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. Judging from the rate at which DS shoved it into his face, it was some kind of success.

I don't think I have ever tasted homemade bread. Do they taste like the super soft dinner rolls at Thanksgiving that just melt in your mouth? I have tasted fresh French bread at the bakery and that's so delicious.

I got really into it for awhile. It's not as time consuming or difficult as people think. I want to start doing it again.

I like the Sullivan Street Bakery method, where you basically do a long rise (like 18 hours) instead of kneading and then bake in an enameled cast iron pan. It comes out like bread you'd buy in a bakery.

I haven't had a lot of success with more "loaf" type breads, I don't know why. I have a feeling I am killing the yeast, but not sure.
