I haven't been to any engagement parties, but I was a bride at one, and we got several cards (with no money inside - which is fine. I just want to make note of that in case anyone is wondering) and maybe one gift. There were over 75 people there I'd say.

I also haven't been to any, but was the bride at one, and we got a ton of gifts. Pretty much the whole registry was bought out.

I have only been to a few engagement parties, but did not buy gifts for the parties (other than a card and a nice bottle of wine/champagne). I did, however, later buy shower and wedding gifts for those couples.

@highwire: I know! I wonder if its cultural or regional or something.
I would probably just bring something small but personal, like something monogrammed with her new initial or their favorite wine.

i've been to one and been the bride at one. i brought a gift to the one i attended, but it was small and more personal. i got her a boxed bridal photo album set that had an album for the engagement party, bridal shower, wedding, and honeymoon. it was like $15 at target, and she loved it. we hadn't registered yet when we had our engagement party, so we got mostly money. we did get a few photo albums, frames, and home goods.

Yes, I def bring a gift to engagement parties! But I love to give gifts I usually pick something in proportion to the level of fanciness of the party!

I always bring a smaller gift like a nice bottle of wine or champagne. I've done things like a nice crystal picture frame before, too.

Yes I always bring a gift. However if I can't make it I don't send a gift (which I do do for a shower or wedding).

i was the bride at one, and people brought gifts, but i didn't have a bridal shower, so maybe people thought it was appropriate. when i go to them, i also bring gifts and most other guests do too.

Haven't been to an engagement party, but when BIL got engaged, we sent him and (now) SIL gifts. A nice watch for him and a pair of pearl earrings for her.

@MamaMoose: me too.
My go to gift is a crystal ring holder from Nambe.
