When you are shopping at a regular supermarket...do you buy store brand or name brand?
I usually buy name brand! DH usually buys store brand with the exception of french fries...Ore-Ida is the only brand for him!

Depends on the item & the store. More & more stores have their own organic lines, so for some things it's the only way we can afford the organic. And some things it doesn't make a bit of difference! So why pay more? Other things (diet coke) I only like the real thing. I love most trader joe's brand items! Most I like more than other brands- they have the best ketchup!

It depends. I'd say I buy about 50/50 name vs store brand. There are some things (like cheese) where store brand just doesn't cut it. A "friend" got onto me once telling me how much money I was wasting by buying name brand cheese. I told her my husband works hard and if he wants name brand cheese, I'm buying him name brand cheese. We can afford it.

Depends on the item. Our local grocery chain has really good store brand items; probably due in part to their "double your money back guarantee" that you'll think their store brand is as good as the name brand. Some things I'm brand specific though.

Store brand. There are few things we buy name brand. I did discover name brand chex mix is SO much better!
And coke!!!! There's just no substitute.

It is a good mix for us. Some store brands just are not the same, and it is worth the little extra for name brand.

Depends on the item for sure. And the price is a huge factor. But the biggest factor for me is the ingredient list, a lot of times brand name has better ingredients. The store brand is cheaper because they may skimp

totally depends on both the item, and sales/coupons. sometimes with sales and/or coupons, name-brand is cheaper!
I've found some things (for instance, non-organic milk) tastes similar to me whether store or name brand. but other things (like bread, cereal) are much better name-brand..haha.

It really does depend on the item. I eat brand name chips, cereal, soda and butter (Smart Balance). Most everything else doesn't matter so much. Oh and chocolate soy milk. Must be brand name. I tried the off brand and it was awful.

I try to buy generics, but sometimes they're just not as good. I buy very little that's prepared, but if I do, I try the generic if it's available.

Depends on the item. Using store brand with the exception of Ketchup and Mayonaise

@Mrs. Sunglasses: Agree!! There is NOTHING like Heinz ketchup (not sure if that's the brand you use). Our attempts to use other kinds have not gone well.

this is a point of tension with me and hubs. he hates that i'm so cheap, and that i always buy walmart brand everything. haha. there are a couple things i'll only buy name brand (@hilsy85: heinz, represent!), but it's mostly walmart brand. i can't tell the difference.

For me it normally depends on what's on sale! I will try and just buy store brand, but if the name brand is very close in price I will most likely just buy the name brand. I'm totally a sales shopper though!

It depends on the item. Some things I buy store brand are milk, cheese, eggs, bread, deli meat, pasta. Things like cookies and chips I buy name brand.

There are some thing we have to get name brand. We pretty much get everything name brand actually, but I don't what brand....whatever is on sale and looks good. But I'm not loyal to a brand. I'll get Pepsi or coke...Kraft or philedephia ...I'm not picky usually

depends on what it is. DH is all for generic brands and he tries to get me to do the same. i've gotten a little better

I often compare ingredients and if the store brand is similar or better than I'll buy that and give it a shot.

It definitely depends on the item and the price difference between the store brand and the name brand. Of course, sales & coupons are also a factor. There are very few things that I will only buy name brand (Lipton teabags).

Depends on what it is. I'm thinking of putting a few store brands in the name brand containers that my husband is picky about and see if he notices a difference... Jif peanut butter is getting so expensive!

Sometimes. If it's something like canned tomatoes, condiments like ketchup mayo or BBQ sauce (though mustard we buy store brand), cereal or soda, I have certain name brands I prefer. There's nothing worse than bad canned tomatoes in a lasagna or pasta sauce.

I usually buy name brand but I recently read a study that shopping store brand can save you the most amount of money. That, and shopping at Costco. Which, if you buy Kirkland, you can double save.
