People give meand my hubby grief about buying ds "girl" toys. I really dont believe in gender seperation when it comes to toys so he gets both (well as much as you can get a 16 month old). He gets a lot of gender neutral toys too. I wanna buy him a doll/play house adn a baby doll next.

No son yet but DH might not like it...but any future son would have 2 older sisters so he doesn't really have a say.

Well, my son doesn't have a dollhouse, but he did wheel around a bright pink doll stroller, filled with rocks for a good 6 months.
I just go with what he likes.

I had a boy 1st so honestly it never occurred to me to buy him "girl" toys - however now that he has a younger sister he does play with her things - they both LOVE the doll house!

We will get items our son has shown interest in... don't really care what gender it's usually associated with! We got him a baby doll before baby #2 came... I think maybe it helped with his adjustment!

For my niece's 2nd birthday my SIL made her a dollhouse, and then each family member that wants to is furnishing and decorating a room. It's turning out SUPER cute! We were at MIL's house working on it, and my nephew (almost 4) saw us working on it, and was soooo jealous. He was playing with it while we were working on it, and when he asked us what we were doing/who it was for we told him it's a surprise present for his sister's birthday (because she was around too, but super oblivious). He kept asking when we were going to get him one - he was so sad!
So, I say go for it! Boys love playing house too!

I have a girl, but she plays with a number of "boy" toys. She plays with what she likes. I imagine we would do the same if we had a boy. If we have a boy in the future he'll definitely have girl toys to play with.

We don't believe in gendered toys, and it drives me nuts when other people (like my parents) comment on DD playing with a "boy" toy or DS playing with a "girl" toy. Some of DS's favorite toys are right now are the tea party, Melissa and Doug Cookie baking set, the dress up box, the play kitchen, etc... he also loves cars and balls, and for Christmas he's getting both a doll and a mini basketball hoop. We just try to buy him stuff he shows an interest in, even if we get occasional negative comments.

I hate when toys are assigned gender appropriateness. DS will be allowed to play with whatever he wants!

I don't buy my son girl toys but he plays with his sister's girl toys all the time. I was just thinking the other day, it's so great that he gets so much joy out of playing with dolls and her dollhouse and kitchen, because if he had been the first child we most likely wouldn't have got those kind of toys for him.

@stargal: you have my full support! I hate gendered toys too! Toys are for everyone! I feel like boys are judged more. Would anyone give a parent grief if a little girl wanted to play with a truck? They would probably think it was cute!
There was a great comic strip once about a little boy playing with a doll. An adult sees it and says "aren't you afraid he's going to grow up and be..." And the boys dad says "what? A father?"
Dolls teach kids to be nurturing in my opinion. Why would I not want that for my son?

Since my DS is #2, he plays with all his older sisters toys. He actually likes them almost as much as his Thomas trains. He loves to wear dress up shoes and read about Cinderella. We probably won't go out of our way to buy the "girl" toys, but that's mainly since we already have so many of them.

No son but we buy our daughter boy toys, she loves cars and trucks!

DS is 6 and would be offended about getting a girl toy. He very much identifies as a boy!

DS is really into sports but he also really loves Hello Kitty. He has a Hello Kitty 'Ugly' doll.
I just get him what he likes. -
DS has a baby doll, play kitchen, and tea set. He also has a castle, which is his version of a doll house.
