I don't know where my Ob went to school and where he was trained (haah. Just know I like him and he's good!)
But I did look for these things when I chose my Lo's pediatrician..

I don't but DH really cares for some reason! He prefers MD educated doctors.

I am embarrassed to say I had no idea (until I looked him up on Google just now). But when we decided to use him, I did know he was named Best of Boston a few years ago, so that sold me!

No, you can have really crappy doctors from the top schools, and amazing doctors from lesser known schools.
Each doctor handles their patients so differently (some are the kind to give you a big hug, and others are straight shooters) that where they went isn't as important to me as their overall competence and their bedside manor.

no but i look at which hospital they're associated with. that's how i selected my ob because she was the head of the best ob dept in ny.

Not really. I care more about interaction. But.....if there was something seriously wrong with LO I would care more and want someone who had been at places where they'd seen a lot.

@Maysprout: Same-- for routine care (for both me and future LO) I would care a lot more about personality and bedside manner. If it was something serious like cancer treatment, I'd want the best of the best, personality be damned.

Glad to hear this response from people! My husband is in his 4th year of medical school, and applying to pediatric residencies. We are making the choice about residency based on our family needs (so, trying to stay close to family, support my career, etc.) and I sometimes worry that it will impact him down the road if he doesn't go to the most prestigious program.
For what its worth, he is in the top 10% of his class, has very high scores on the board exams, and recommendations from top people in his medical school program- but location is just more important to us right now than prestige.

Nope. I just care how good they are and the hospital they are affiliated with. I agree with what @mrsmenow said.
