Our house is usually pretty clean because 1. We have a cleaning lady every other week and 2. If we leave stuff out the dog might eat it, so we usually put things away. My cousins are in town and coming over to see our house so I've been doing some extra picking up. Sometimes I just don't care and use my, "sorry my place is so messy, I have a baby and a constant migraine" excuse. But usually I'll try to clean up.

lol we'll see when the babies come, but yeah, i always clean up before guests come. i guess i don't want them to know how much of a slob my husband and i can get. even if it's just my bro haha. even though he should know how messy i am.

We're pretty clean people Borderline neurotic, in fact. But when we know we're having guests, even if it's our parents, we both go into a cleaning frenzy. I'm not sure why, no one would love us less with a few stray toys around but it's just who we are I guess.

I'm a madwoman when we have people coming over because I get into a cleaning frenzy. The hubs keeps saying, "They don't care!" and I always respond with, "But *I* do!"

I like my house clean on a day to day basis, but when we are having guests I go into a cleaning frenzy. I do that baseboards and clean out the fridge. I scrub everything. My mom and two dad are coming to visit next week. I have a cleaning list started already. Monday is going to be busy!

If it's good friends, I don't care as much. I'll just de-clutter the downstairs, clean the toilet and sweep up as much dog hair & bits of frisbee as possible. If it's someone I don't know as well (or, conversely, my mother), we make sure everything is sparkling clean.

Umm yes! I keep it pretty darn clean and we too have a cleaning lady every other week come. But I still freak out and have to do certain things before we have company over. Drives DH crazy that I freak before people come over. Haha

We keep our house picked up, dishes done, that kind of thing, but we don't actually clean very often. So yes, when we have guests I try to make up for lost time and get the house really clean! I was up super late last night dusting our whole freaking house in anticipation of my ILs visiting!

We keep our house pretty clean so when guests come over, we'll just tidy up and clean the guest bathroom. I'll also pretty it up a little (nice towels, light some candles in the bathroom, pick some fresh flowers from our mini flower garden). Our house is pretty minimalistic so we don't have that much to clean.

Yup, especially the bathrooms, I am a crazy person with the candles, flowers and guest towels.

@looch: Yes, the bathrooms are a must clean for me too!. If I have 10 minutes before guests arrive, I will clean the toilet, wipe down the sink area and clean the mirrors. And make sure there's enough toilet paper too. I actually roll up mini hand towels and put them in a wicker basket for guests so that they don't all have to share one hand towel. Husband hates doing the laundry when we have 20 mini towels to wash and fold. OH well!

@banana: classic, me too! I hate to use other people's towels to dry my hands, I much prefer a guest towel if I am visiting, so I try to extend that courtesy to my guests, lol.

I used to really clean before we have guests... now I just straighten up whatever I can. We have a maid come every other week, so I'm not terribly concerned with making my house spotless.

I just tidy up since our house is always clean. But nothing can be out of place when people come over for sure!
