I get ashy dark brown lowlights 1-2 times a year. My hair gets red and brassy in the sun so the lowlights make it look way better at the end of summer.

Yes! I'm a natural blonde and used to highlight 2-5 times a year. For almost the past year I've gone all over color in various reds-- currently a super vibrant orange. I love it, even though it's a lot of maintenance. I get treated much differently as not-a-blonde too.

Yes, I have grays and I'm only 29! I have naturally dirty blonde hair and have been dying it burgundy red for almost 10 years now even though I've only been getting gray hair for about 3 of those years

I got highlights once more than a decade ago. I think I would look odd with a different hair color, so I just keep what I have (dark brown).

Every 6 weeks. I naturally have very mousy/ashy brown hair and I just warm the color up a bit and add a little caramel highlighting in. It's not a drastic change from my natural color, but so much less mousy.

The last couple years it's just been balayage highlights or darkening to my natural color. I go back n forth from dark brown, highlights, red, etc!

The last time I colored my hair, it turned out the exact same color as it was before!!

@Synchronicity: Same for me. I've been getting highlights since I was 12 years old and I am taking a break. It's just so much maintenance so I want to see how I like my natural color before I go gray.

Yep I have too much gray at 30 to go natural. I've actually colored my hair since like 7th grade, my natural color is a very mossy brown color (at least it was back then) no idea what it looks like now as I haven't seen it in 15+ years

I used to. One of my best friends from high school became a stylist, and for a while after she got her first job she would do my hair and only charge me materials costs, so I let her kind of experiment. I had all kinds of funky colors and highlights. It was a lot of fun, and because she only charged me for the materials, it was affordable. Once she started having to charge me for real, I had to stop. I started using box color and then eventually just stopped coloring altogether. I have a fair amount of greys now and sometimes I think about dying it again to cover them, but ain't nobody got time (or money) for that.

Nope. I haven't done it since I was maybe 24-25? So about 12-13 years ago. My hair is way too dark and grows way too fast. I would have to be at the salon every 3 weeks. Not worth it to me! I do have a lot of grays now. For now I pull them out or hide them.

@rachiecakes: that's interesting because I've been told that red hair usually loses the natural color later than other hair colors. I always believed it because my grandma (well into her 80s) only recently started having more grey/white than red in her "cinnamon and sugar" hair. So-- guess it's possible I'll go grey sooner. I hadn't had a chance to compare notes with a redhead outside my family before.

Another one that used to highlight but haven't since I was pregnant with LO #1.
