How long do you keep credit card, utility, etc bills for? And do you just throw them out in the trash or do you shred them?

I keep them all. I have a file bin and I organize them. I keep them for about a year.
I keep credit card information longer than utility bills.

We keep each bill in a separate plastic sheet in a binder. When the plastic sheet gets full, then we go through and get rid of the old bills. DH loves to burn stuff in the fireplace so that's where the old bills go.

It depends what bill it is. Most of them I try to file. I also get most of the bills online.

The mortgage is the only bill we receive a paper copy of. The rest we've opted out of paper billing as we pay everything online.

I keep them all in a big plastic bin. I even have bank statements from all the way back to high school. Kind of ridiculous, I know. I really need to switch over to doing everything online, but it makes me kind of nervous to not have the paper trail...
