I was thinking of getting one but then DH said, "what do you do with it?"
I want to make nut butters with it, but I realized apart from that I wasn't sure what else to so with it.
What do you use yours for and what are your favorite brands?

I'm waiting for mine to be delivered right this minute! We have a huge garden and I'll use it for chopping and slicing things for putting up. Also, I'm gluten-free and trying to avoid grains as a whole, so I plan to use it for making some cheaper GF flours. Nut butters too. Oh, and it will make freezer cooking SO much quicker! 5 lbs. of onions is a lot to chop by hand, lol.

I have a mini one and it is basically useless. With a full size one i would make soups, pesto, pie crusts, and filling for humitas (sweet corn and cheese tamales).

My parents bought me a good one when I blew out the motor on another one making peanut butter. It's a Cuisinart Smart Power Duet blender & food processor that they picked up at Costco a few years ago. Besides peanut butter I use the food processor for pesto, salsa, pie crust.

I shred carrots in it regularly for salads. I found a KitchenAid on sale a while ago. I make spreads and dips in it too.

I have a cuisinart and make a lot of soups and dips, and shred cabbage and carrots for coleslaw.

I have a kitchenaid. I use it all the time to chop vegetables.

Cuisinart. It rocks. We just used ours to make a puree for our popsicle molds. We're going to start using it a lot again when DD2 eats more solids.

I have a cuisinart. This pic is the first time I used it- for crushing cookies I've used it since then for hummas & some sauces. I'm sure I'll use it more in the future

@FarmWifeGina: ooooh so it chops in addition to purees?! AWESOME. I hate prep work.
@MapleMoose: do you like that one? I was looking at the $100 cuisinart on amazon.
@autumnlove: hahaha can I buy it from you?!
@mrs. bird: hahaha

Yes, it's a Cuisinart. It's my favorite toy but I don't use it a lot. I probably use my mixer more than it. I am very happy I got it as a gift and did not buy it for myself.

our came with our blender...and in three years i think i have only used it once...and i cant remember for the life of me for what...

Soups, pie crusts, carrots, sauces (I always pull it out when I make sweet potato and black bean enchiladas). I also sometimes dice onions and garlic in it. So fast, no tears, and I can't cut myself. Mine's not super fancy, I think it's like a $30 Hamilton Beach, but it does what I want it to do.

I have a big Cuisinart I got for about half off. It grates veggies and cheese super super fast. It chops onions and garlic for me faster than I could do myself. I like that my Cuisinart has three size bowls so just because it is large doesn't mean you have to clean the whole thing every time, only the parts you used. I agree with PPs on soups. Our Best Bites has a Creamy Tomato Soup that is fantastic and it blends great. I don't use it frequently, but when I do, I am so thankful I have it.

@Mrs. Pen: Oh, yes! I got it this afternoon and immediately opened it and sliced up some potatoes and squash for roasting! I hate prep work too! I mean, obviously, if I'm going to chop one onion, I'll just chop it by hand, I won't bother to get out the big deal (I kinda got the biggest Cuisinart, lol- tax refund!). But it's going to be uber helpful for doing bigger bunches of chopping and slicing. Can't wait to use it for salsa and pico de gallo and guacamole and all kinds of yumminess! Hoping to can some salsa this summer- I will totally admit that chopping all those ingredients by hand has put the kibosh on it for me in the past.

@Mrs. Pen: haha, not yet! I'm gonna try to use it soon!

@autumnlove: which one do you have? Oh and I was joking

I have a Cuisinart that I love. I mostly use it to make hummus, pesto, salsa, pie crust, apple sauce, and almond butter, to shred cheese and veggies, and to chop garlic if I need more than 1 or 2 cloves.
watermelon / 14467 posts
I have a manual one from pampered chef. I chop onions in it, make veggie burgers, and I made hummus once! I love it. Of all my kitchen stuff, that's the one I would marry.

@Mrs. Pen: It hasn't failed me yet! Just used it tonight to make eggplant caponata for a party tomorrow

I have one. I use it for pie crust, pesto, some prep tasks, shredding cheese... if you like to cook you would use it. I'm pretty positive.

@Mrs. Pen: Haha, I know. It is a Kitchenaid in Empire Red. I think. 7 cup capacity?
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Mrs. Twine: not necessarily that I like to cook but more so that it is a daily task that needs to be done so I do it. We cook our dinners 6/7 nights a week.

We got one as a wedding gift and hardly use it. I need to find more recipes that require me to use it.

@autumnlove: lol same here!! i have one that's still sitting pretty in the box it came in. it was a wedding gift so its been sitting unopened for almost 4 years now. yikes!

Yes! We have a cuisinart. We don't use it all the time, but we use it often enough that it is worth having.
grapefruit / 4110 posts
Pesto, Salsa, Obliterating Vegetables (the only way I will eat them), I have been making various chickpea based treats with it lately (chocolate chip cookie hummus).
pear / 1693 posts
I have a cusinart and I LOVE it. I use it for hummus, nut butter, pie dough, grinding some flours (like oat), sauces, chopping veggies. It came with a grating attachment and I use that for cheese and veggies.

We use our food processor ALL. THE. TIME. seriously, we couldn't live without it! We cook a lot of meals from Jamie Oliver's 15 minute meals book, and most of his recipes call for e processor, usually to chop veg and make sauces. We also make a lot of LO's baby food in there - not just purees, but chopping things up into smaller chunks etc. it seriously is our most used kitchen appliance....next to our electric kettle of course as my British/Aussie husband can't have less than about six cups of tea per day, which has of coursed rubbed off on me!

I have a full size and a mini food processor. The mini is great for chopping herbs or nuts. I use the big on to make marinades, pie crust, slice apples for pies, and to grate cheese. I love them both. It's one of those things that I don't use very often but when I need it, there really is no substitute for it.
pomelo / 5628 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: me too! Still in the box. I have no idea how to use it...but hoping ill get up the nerve to try when lo starts solids Ina. Couple of weeks.

We have some weird brand, but I use it quite often. I will say though I'd like a smaller one. If it's too big, some of the food or whatever just flies around in there and doesn't get touched by the blade. Unless there's a lot of stuff in there, ya know? It's almost beneficial to have one big one and one small one if you're going to use them a lot. But then again a lot of the time, you could just use a blender.
But, I think it's good to have one!

I also have an enormous Cuisinart with 3 different bowls. I use it for shredded veggies (carrots, zucchini, potatoes, onions, etc.), pesto, hummus, shredded cheese, soup, gazpacho, pie crust. I have a Parmesan grater attachment and a whisk attachment for whipping egg whites. I also make baby food with it. You can make nut butters and flours with it, but I haven't tried those things yet.
I made bread dough in it once, but I'm kind of scared of burning out the motor, so I probably won't do that again. That said, the bread turned out really well.

We got one as a wedding gift, and it's still sitting in a box in a closet. I'm hoping to use it when DS is here and is eating purees/solids!

i recently bought one with my ebates gift card, but i never use it. i wish i had purchased a vitamix instead (yes it's 4x the cost though). the vitamix can do what the food processor can do, plus make the best smoothies!

I have a cuisinart duet. Along with everything everyone has posted also for pizza dough!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: this is the one i have, and it come with a 12 cup and a 4 cup bowl so you don't get the 'too little in a big bowl useless spin'. genius!
