@regberadaisy: oh fun! do you mix the dough in it like you would a kitchenaid mixer?
@mrs. bird: that is one high tech processor!!! gee! I think it looks awesome. but I definitely don't have $200 for one... I wonder if they sell them at BBB - they always send out those 20% off one item coupons!

@Mrs. Bee: that's on my wishlist too! But it doesn't chop veggies. And I really want to make nut butters and my SIL has tried with the vitamix and it didn't work.

@Mrs. Pen: haha I'm not sure I usually use our kitchenaid or do by hand but I know you can!

I have this one: http://www.target.com/p/hamilton-beach-10-cup-food-processor/-/A-11893663. It works well and was $50. I use it for prep work and for things like pesto and salsa. My fave in the summer is fruit salsa with baked cinnamon chips!

@Mrs. Pen: these two in the amazon warehouse are super inexpensive! they say 'used', but that means it's a return, not that someone used it, so it'll look like someone opened the box and then put it back. if you click '7 used offers' and scroll down to the last one offered at $29.21, it's just a repackage, there's nothing wrong with it. it is a 8 cup and has 4 star average from 367 reviews, so i bet it's decent!

or a little bigger at 10 cups (and IMO nicer looking) and still a 4 star review average, the hamilton beach one. this one is just an unopened return since it's in 'like new' condition. $42

I have every kitchen appliance known to man, they've been in storage the last 5 years, I haven't missed them that much, to be honest. I find the issue is taking them out and then putting them away again. If you leave them out all the time, you're more likely to use them.
I am really curious about the nut butter, has anyone successfully made it in their food processor or blender?

@mrs. bird: That second one's the same one I have and like! Discounts ftw!

We have four haha. We have one big nice one, two mini ones, and one hand crank one. I use the hand crank one to shred foods like brussels sprouts. NOMMMM. I use the mini ones to dice garlic- I'll de-skin a whole head and then process it in there to be minced up and it keeps in the fridge for a week or two but is way better for you than the jarred stuff but you can use it the same. (I think you could use a nice/big one easily for those applications too, I just have a chef husband who has too many gadgets.) And then the big one DH uses for a ton but the only thing that I would ever use it for that isn't like crazy chef-like is PESTOOOO! Sooo delicious!

We love our food processor! I regularly make nut butters, pie crust, pesto, hummus, bread crumbs from stale bread (freeze them), random sauces, etc.
I recently used it to shred potatoes for hash browns and it worked wonderfully.
We also love this bread recipe for sandwiches (there are lots of other food processor bread recipes too): http://www.vietworldkitchen.com/blog/2007/05/vietnamese_bagu.html
And I make the sauce for my beef barbacoa in it once every couple weeks. So easy! http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2012/04/tender-beef-barbacoa-chipotle-tacos-recipe.html (I had to include the recipe because it is THAT good!)
We bought ours at Bed Bath & Beyond with a coupon. This one: http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DFP-14BCN-Processor-Brushed-Stainless/dp/B0000645TW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1370027183&sr=8-3&keywords=cuisinart+food+processor

I recently got one to make nut butters too! But I haven't gotten around to it yet...
My friend makes dough in hers.

We have this crazy awesome food processor that I got as a shower present from FIL and I have no idea what to do with it - http://www.kitchenaid.com/shop/countertop-appliances-1/countertop-appliances-2/food-processors-3/-KFP1333ER-401261/KFP1333ER/
It's such a pain to clean, DH hates when I use it (because he usually gets stuck with cleaning!) I don't do a lot of cooking big batches or soups, so maybe that's why I don't have a use for it. I also have a teeny one that I use for grating small amounts of veggies and herbs.
