My brother always likes to get the diaper genie if they're registered for it. He still finds poop to be funny. Usually I'll make a diaper cake or something out of diapers and cover it with things that they've registered for.

Diapers. I'll usually buy $50 or so of diapers in different sizes - NB-2.

Not really, I Like to get something off the registry then something cute not on the registry. Usually with gift receipts.

I try to stick to the registry. If they don't have much left and haven't registered for it though, I like to give A+A blankets.

@mediagirl: Do you ask if they're going cloth first? I'm always scared when I give diapers that they are going to cloth.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
I figure if they don't have cloth on their registry, they're doing regular. Honestly, no one I know IRL uses cloth!!!
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
@mediagirl: Lol, I've never met anyone else who does cloth either! I use it though and got some disposable diapers as gifts, so I don't want to do that to someone else.

For new parents, Happiest baby on the block DVD and something off their registry. For 2nd + time parents, something off the registry and/or PBK hooded towel (personalized if they know gender/name).

@NYCaliMama: I have that DVD, you reminded me that I get to regift it now!

Before having a LO, I would strictly buy off the registry. Now, I might buy something small off the registry and include some "off registry" items that I liked using...

I used to buy the mom a gift certificate for a prenatal massage or diapers. Now I'm making the new parents a gift basket of stuff that they might need in the middle of the night, such as gas drops, gripe water, saline spray, baby tylenol, diaper cream and aquaphor.

Sophie! Then usually something off the registry that's "practical/boring" that the parents really need.

If they have a registry, I go with something from that. If not I either give some A&A swaddle blankets, and/or a nice bamboo sleeper/gown.

@NYCaliMama: I totally forgot about Happiest Baby, but it was a lifesaver for us! Definitely adding it to my "to give" list.
Aside from that, I like giving Sophie too :), or a stroller blanket, or CA Baby soap (depending on how well I know the preferences of the parents).

I try to get something "boring" off the registry since I know a lot of people want to buy the fun/cute stuff. I will mix that with a cute outfit for when the baby is a bit older. I always figure people get tons of little, tiny baby clothes but not a lot for older babies.

I usually get something off the registry plus something cute or Sophie if they're not registered for it.

We don't do registries for baby showers here. Most are also team green. I tend to do a cute outfit and a toy, both for 3-6 month. Since having LO my go-to is a Love Me sleep swaddle. They are unreal!

Usually I'll do A&A blankets or cute little onesies. And maybe gift cards once in a while.

I do Aden and Anais blankets, trumpette socks, and magic mug snack traps

I always include a toy. I usually get an outfit, toy, booties/socks unless their is a registry item that I want to purchase.

If it's a close friend I'll usually buy something off the registry that would be one of the "bigger" gifts if there's anything like that not fulfilled. I've bought bouncers, pack n plays, etc. Sometimes I'll go in with another family member or close friends on one of the big ticket items on the registry as well. If I'm not as close of a friend I'll just go with something in the middle range off of the registry and a cute outfit.

We purchase tons of diapers or a little play set that you set on the ground and have the baby lie on and play with toys above.

I guess I'm not creative, but I go to a lot of these at work and I always get a gift card. I hate registries and I think that gift cards are more practical... but if it's someone I'm really close to I will go with a bigger, more personal item.
