There is always bigger and better! I really love our house b/c we completely renovated it so it's pretty much exactly what we want, but I kinda dread my SIL getting a house b/c their budget is like triple our budget and I know their house is gonna be amazing

Yeah, I had my heart set on a center hall colonial and that is so not what we bought, lol.

I wanted something with an interesting roof line and I have a rectangle, basically.

I *LOVE* our home – it’s really perfect for us and I have no desire to change it at all, so in that sense I don't have home envy. That said, my MIL is moving near to us and has a lot (lot!) more money than we do to play with and we’re checking out all these ahhhhhhmazing oceanfront homes for her that we could never afford….yeah, makes me a little home-envious, I’ll admit it!

I design homes for the mega rich for a living. It's really humbling to spend gobs of other people's money on silly things and then come home to our small apartment.
Oh well.

Yep! And I love our house.

Yes! We don't own a home. And we live in a little box in an area with cute little homes surrounding us that we can't afford. It's funny because our neighborhood was just in the news for being the last "affordable" option close to Park Slope. Affordable for who? And we watch too much HGTV and see what the rest of the country can buy and we get so jealous!

One thing we've done is to cut out HGTV! We'll watch Property Brothers but no more House Hunters or Property Virgins. Another thing I've done is to check out more of the Apartment Therapy blog since it's geared towards living well in small spaces and fixing your own place on a budget--it's really helped me appreciate how we can make our apartment really work for us.

@mamimami: Haha I feel like we're not human if we never think grass is greener on the other side! I live in the NE where real estate is ridiculous... And then my friend who lives in TX has like a giant brand new beautiful house for next to nothing (in my eyes). I was majorly envying when I went to see her! Then she was in NY later on and came to my house and I felt like she was probably like, "THIS is what you spend WHAT on?!"

it helps that we live in new york where most people have small apartments. sure it would be nice to live in a bigger place, but in general i don't really envy others.

Not really. We are actually the only homeowners in our group of friends, so I consider us very lucky! Plus we bought a cute house when the market bottomed out, so we got a lot for our money.

That's not to say I don't get on Zillow a few times a week and drool over the giant/beautiful houses in my town!

Yes, I don't watch much HGTV anymore because I was getting depressed that we are not able to buy a house yet. We live in a high cost of living area.

I definitely have home envy! We fell in love with a dream home a few weeks ago, made a full price offer and lost it in a bidding war Now I'm having trouble getting excited about any house that's in our budget.

Yup! We rent, our apt is nice (I call it a craphole frequently, but we have bamboo floors, granite, and stainless, it's in a crappy neighborhood, but it's not like we're slummin). I get embarrassed about where we live and that we don't own, but it is what it is. Life is expensive and we're poor, but we're happy so it's all good!

Live in a cruddy apartment, so yes!

Sometimes. We live in a very expensive area (I feel like there are so many of those!) and there are a lot of beautiful homes to look at. I used to live in a much less expensive part of the country and I get a bit blue when I see my friends' homes from there. They just get more for their money there but there's nothing I can do about that.

Nope, love our house! We bought a lot less than we can afford and I'm soooo happy we did.

Our house needs a lot of work, so I'm often envious of people who decided to buy newer and more "move-in ready". However, I'm glad we stuck to our budget, and we will keep working away at this house until we get it to a place where we're really happy with it.

Sometimes yes, I'm ready for a bigger home and an open ranch layout isntead of split level, but I do lov our home and will be okay with a few more years in it. Ask me after kid number two and I'm sure I will be singing a different tune
