We want to get a remote starter for our car because its cold in the winter.. Its already a bit cold in the car in the mornings. If you have a remote starter did you buy it as an aftermarket thing or did you get it from your dealer?

DH's car has that plus heated seats. The car came like it though.

I had one on my 2002 jeep liberty. we added it after the fact and it was like $150 installed. I used it all the time. In the winter to warm it and de-ice it if we had a storm and in the summer to cool the car off I just had to remember to leave the AC on when i turned the car off. I miss it terribly with my new car. But i heard they're more expensive to install these days and would run like in the $300-400 range just because of the new tech in cars.

I have remote start + heated seats (came like that from dealer) and honestly I dont' use the remote start as much as I thought I would. I park in a garage though, so my car stay pretty warm. I will use it occasionally at work if the garage is full and I have to park outside, and the best hing about mine is it turns on the heated seats too...soo it's nice and toasty when I get in!

We have remote start, and it's a god send in the summer. I can't imagine not having it at this point. I can assume that it would also be nice somewhere with real winters for the heater. We have heated seats, as well, but that's a joke in FL. I wish we had air conditioned seats!

Yep. It's great for when I have LO so I can cool down the car before she gets in!

Nope. I don't think it is necessary. This is also coming from someone who lived in MA.
My friend had his engine blow up due to his remote starter. Thankfully it happened right after he sold the truck.

I have it on my Tahoe. Came like that with heated and AC seats. I'm in Texas so the AC is more important for us. I use it all the time to cool the car off while I gather-up baby items and load the car. It helps. But some of the remote starts don't turn the heater on or they don't turn the heated/ac seats. So be sure to check that.

Sure do! Living here in Wisconsin, I couldn't imagine having a car without a remote start!!! I park in a garage at home, but at work I'm just out in the lot, so I use it daily in winter!

Thanks everyone! I will ask around and see how to get this done..
@travelingnanny: I guess its convenient because it warms the car in advance of you getting into it and I really want that since i dont put LO in a jacket in the car

I have one and will be glad this winter with DS. It gets cold here in the winter and you have to warm the car up.

I was kind of expecting one for Christmas last year... didn't happen. DH knows a guy that does them (he put one in MIL's and SIL's vehicles and no problems with either) so I'll probably just find an after market one and have it installed early this winter.

@Mrsbells: You might have luck looking at places like best buy or other stores that do car stereo installs. Might be cheaper than a dealership or a mechanic. I know we got mine on a black friday sale from a home theater store that did car stereos
