I don't but I think I should keep Trader Joe's bread in the fridge because it gets moldy so fast.

For the first few days it stays on the counter but if it's not gone by then we put it in the fridge.

Sandwich bread/English muffins, yes (bc it gets moldy in the high humidity); fancy bakery breads we will eat within 2 days anyway, no.

We started buying organic or natural bread instead of the regular bread at the grocery store, so we have to keep it in the fridge otherwise it will go bad too fast.

Yep...after the first few days, we throw it in the fridge. We don't eat bread too often so it seems like a waste otherwise!
honeydew / 7444 posts
No, i hate the way the fridge makes it taste. I always put it in the freezer after 2 days so it stays fresh.
honeydew / 7917 posts
Yes. Sometimes I'll leave it out for a few days, but usually it's easier to put it straight in the fridge before I forget.

I never even heard of such a thing until Sheldon mentioned that it makes it go stale faster (on Big Bang Theory). The only kind I ever put in the fridge is the sprouted grain bread, because it says to.

Nope, we use a bread box or put it in the freezer if its out for too long. The fridge makes bread go stale quickly (and I don't think cold bread is tasty).

i've read that putting it in the fridge makes it go stale faster.

@autumnlove: We freeze it! It defrosts nicely when we toast it...
grapefruit / 4671 posts
The fridge definitely makes it stale. We either finish it or freeze it.

@mrbee: I don't toast for LO's sandwiches for school....gotta save a step.
grapefruit / 4089 posts
We never put it in the fridge. It either stays out, or goes in the freezer if we aren't eating it quickly enough.

No. If I don't think we will eat it all, I would rather freeze half.
pear / 1693 posts
Sliced bread we do, because we buy preservative free and don't eat it quickly. Fresh loafs (like french bread) we keep on the counter because we eat it super quick!

No. It makes bread go bad quicker!
We keep our bread in a breadbox. Sometimes we freeze it.

same as @locavore_mama:
but if we buy bread in bulk like 2 loaves from costco, one goes directly into the freezer.
persimmon / 1128 posts
No. Finish it or make french toast before it expires and has to be tossed.

@Torchwood: @Mrs. Bee: @plantains: i learn yet another new thing from hellobee! i guess my bread is not going into the fridge from this day forward...

@shinymama: same with the french toast. We buy sourdough on monday and if it's still around on saturday, it's perfect for French toast.

I put the pre-sliced loafs in the fridge and haven't noticed them going stale faster. Perhaps I don't have the taste buds for stale bread? Weird!
pomegranate / 3580 posts
No, can't stand the stale taste it gets. We go through bread fairly quick though. DH can't stand it frozen either, although I don't mind that if we buy in bulk.
persimmon / 1367 posts
Only when I'm worried that there's a mouse in the house that could get into it. Otherwise out it stays!
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@Jenn23: ya, I don't think I eat it enough to know the difference!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Yup! Ezekiel bread stays fresh in the fridge. I always toast it, anyways.
pear / 1609 posts
only if we buy exekiel. only DH eats that though. Regular bread doesn't go in the fridge.

@autumnlove: As long as it isn't moldy, it is fit for consumption for me!
