If your LO is sick, do you always let them sleep as much as they want.
LO (15 mo) has had a fever for 5 days. I think she's probably slept 18-20 hours a day since Sunday. That seems like a lot!!! Doc isn't worried about food intake (it's been almost zero), because she's drinking, and peeing.
I just wonder if I should wake her? I can't force her to eat/drink, so she'll probably just cry??

Definitely let her sleep. When LO is sick she basically nurses, cuddles, and sleeps.

Speaking of hydration ... She's probably getting about 8-10 ounces of water a day + a little pedialyte ... Does this sound reasonable? She usually drinks more, but she's sleeping most of the time right now.

I hate that she's sick. I can tell she's miserable!' But I will say, I've been LOVING the extra cuddles. It's especially sweet because I imagine she will be walking as soon as she is feeling better. She was starting to take her first confident steps last week before her fever hit.

I always let a sick kiddo sleep. And I know what you mean about loving the extra cuddles. My firstborn wasn't a very snugly little guy so I always ate up the times when he was sick because it meant he actually needed me and wanted to be close and snuggle.

Took her back to the doc. Double ear infection!!! I can't believe it wasn't noticed at her check up on Friday. So frustrated, and I feel so, so guilty for the pain she's been in.

@littlejoy: please don't beat your self up about it. In my experience cold symptoms scan turn into ear infections pretty quickly. We took DS to a pediatric ENT on a Wednesday and he told us no infection, just some fluid (he did warn us that it could turn into an infection) two days later we were at the pediatrician because DS had a fever and an ear infection.

@littlejoy: they happen SO fast! The two times E had them this year, daycare insisted that's probably what it was because we couldn't tell! She'll feel better soon!

@littlejoy: don't feel bad! There is no way you could have known, and your doctor was totally giving you the brush-off. You're a good mama for bringing her in and she will be feeling better in no time.

@blackbird: Perfect. That's the dose Al is on ... Doc at Urgent Care said 2 days would be our "sweet spot".

@littlejoy: poor thing. This happened to us recently. He had a 104 temp and we took him to the ped and they said no ear infection. Then she thought maybe he had the flu even though there was no other flu symptoms so we started on tamiflu. After another 2-3 days of 104 fever and no improvement we took him back and it was an ear infection. It took 2 full days after starting antibiotics until the fever went away and we started to see somewhat of a personality from our LO. It's so tough.
To answer your question, yes let the sleeping babe sleep!
