I usually pick out my LO's outfits for school, which consist of sweats or leggings and a basic top. Today I had an outfit picked out but the tags were bothering her on the pants, so she changed them. She went to school in red pants with stripes and a pink shirt...I didn't even care one bit! All the other kids at school always have nicely coordinated outfits with matching hair accessories and matching shoes. I have to choose my battles!

@avivoca: Oh my gosh there were many, many days in summer and fall that O wore princess dresses out. I tell her it's too cold now but really I I also got sick of the glitter ALL over her car seat!

dd isn't even two and loves picking out her own clothes. Sometimes she looks crazy but as long as she likes it, that's all that matters!

For the most part. I try not to let her wear pjs to school, though on really bad days I don't fight her about the shirt as long as she wears real pants. Otherwise, I try to only keep clothes I'm okay with her wearing (i.e. weather-appropriate) in her dresser so she can pick whatever she wants.

For the most part, given what she chooses is weather appropriate. She thankfully doesn't choose PJ's so that's good, but she reallllly likes to wear dresses (frilly/tutus, or summer maxi types). I make her wear long sleeve stuff underneath and it looks ridiculous but I don't mind LOL. I think most of the little girls in her class do the same thing because they all come to school in some crazy/random getups!

As long as it's weather appropriate, it's not a battle I'm going to fight. LO often wants to wear her "underwear" (a pair of pajama shorts) over her diaper and under her pants and 2-3 shirts. She also has a hissy fit if I try to do anything to her hair except put the bows that she has chosen in - no ponies or braids - and often the bows are crazy colors. I don't have that kind of energy in the morning.

Yeah. Luckily our school has uniforms so that keeps it really simple in the mornings. On the weekends she can wear whatever she wants, but I prefer if she matches. DH let's her go out looking crazy! Ha.

Yeah, I save myself epic meltdowns and lots of time by letting her choose. Lately she is wearing party dresses every day. To be honest I would let her wear pyjama shirts too, but DH won't.

Yep! I swear my daughter is the only one at her preschool that looks like a mismatched mess...all the other kids look so put together and I am Akways wondering how their parents get them to cooperate!!

Oh, she always picks. She usually looks ridiculous, but I can't handle the fight. She refuses to wear anything but dresses so I had to buy a whole bunch of long sleeved ones for winter

My LO cares about picking her clothes but usually only about the top and will let me pick her pants/leggings. She mostly only wants to wear dresses which frustrates me sometimes bc there are cute shirts she hardly ever wears. And there are some days she really wants to wear some funky leggings with a mismatched shirt and I let her bc she's a kid

yup as long as its weather appropriate. alot of times she'll go elephant style (gray on top and bottom) or mismatched prints. but shes happy at least. this is definitely one of those "pick your battles" type moments for me. not worth the energy. i always wonder about how some kids are so nicely dressed with super trendy clothes all the time.

Not yet! But I will. Weather appropriate to a degree. I'll put very non-cold weather gear up during the winter (like sandals). If she doesn't want to wear enough layers I'll probably just take extra stuff with us so she can learn for herself that she needs more clothes in the cold.

She has worn her tiger Halloween costume on more than one occasion since Halloween.
At least I'm getting my money's worth. So yeah. Most of the time she picks part of the outfit and I can pick the rest to match though.

Absolutely- they're kids! DD2 flat out won't wear anything she doesn't pick out. DD1 wears a uniform to school, so her options with school days are limited, but she still gets to select whether she wants to wear her jumper or her chinos (it's always the jumper), her leggings, funky shoes, hair accessories, and her outfit when she gets home from school. I feel sad when I see kids dressed like tiny adults- they only get one chance to be kids!
