I usually get our cakes at Albertson's (local supermarket) but we are going to try a Costco cake for LO 1's next bday party.

I want to make his first bday cake but I may end up using a mix to make it easier.

My mom always made mine from scratch and I plan on doing the same! It's one of the things I am most excited to do.

The cakes will be bought. I am not a baker or a decorator.

@autumnlove: We had a Costco cake for R's bday. It was good and cheap!
I made her smash cake but I bought the cake foe everyone else.

@Leialou made the cake for her first birthday. I'll probably buy the one for her second birthday. She loves ice cream so I think an ice cream cake would be a hit.

We ended up buying her a small dessert smash "cake" at Whole Foods that was free of dairy, soy, and egg due to her allergies. Dessert for party guests was homemade apple crisp.

I plan to bake them! DS is 6 months and I am already thinking about what kind of cake I'll make

@CakeLady: I expect that from a cakelady!
@Smurfette: cheesecake layer...yum!

@autumnlove: I realized after I replied it was a pretty "duh!" answer coming from me.

I found a gorgeous 3-tier Minnie cake on pinterest and a local baker made an amazing replica! It was a big party so the 3 tiers were actually necessary:)

always buy because i'm not a baker other than box cake! but it would be fun to try to make it. maybe when the kids are older and i have more time.

@autumnlove: I somehow stupidly forgot to take a pic of LO's cake bc we had so many people and it was so busy! But this is the pinterest pic and it looked EXACTLY like this and was amazing! The bottom/main layer was funfetti cake and icing (the outside was fondant so it covered the funfetti icing dots) and the kids loved it. I did too:)

I bought for his 1st birthday but now I work for a company that specializes in cake decorating supplies so I've stepped up my game. I've started to work with fondant and really like it. I made his 2nd birthday cake and got a lot compliments on it.

My mil baked the cake and I iced and decorated it. I wish I could bake!!

I made a dairy free cake for LO--it didn't look that pretty because the icing was an odd texture because of the dairy-and-soy-free components.
Then SIL made her cake for her other family celebration.

I made hers last year (pumpkin cupcakes), the year before we purchased it. Most likely we will purchase cupcakes from Sam's club in the future.

We usually get our birthday cakes at Baskin Robbins because we love ice cream cakes in our family.

Made. No way I have the time or patience to make a cake and prep a party.

I've made her cakes from scratch so far - it's work but I figure it's only once a year. Last year my MIL asked if I could make the same cake for my husbands bday less than a month after M's and I shot that right down!

I make the cakes, for sure. But I love that part best, when it comes to throwing a party.

My sister is a pastry chef so she always makes cakes for our whole families birthdays. They're delicious and beautiful. For my moms birthday in November she made a piecake - a pecan pie baked into a dark chocolate cake! If she didn't I'm sure I would bake them for my kids, I'm pretty good at baking (though I'm no pastry chef) and I'm thrifty too.

I always make our cakes. Though this time, I'm thinking about just making a smash cake and buying cupcakes for guests so I have less to do.
