I answer the door if I'm not busy with the baby.

But I always look first and if they look sketchy I will ignore it, or if it is after dark then I'll usually ignore it too.

Yup! But we live somewhere super safe and I look out the peep hole first.

we have an intercom buzzer system to get in our building, so i always peek outside to see if i can see any trucks (UPS, national grid, whatever) then ask who it is. i buzz them in if it matches up & i'm expecting them. if someone is already in the building, i speak to them through the door & look outside to see any vehicles. but normally i do not open the door for anyone i'm not expecting, i don't even open the door for my ILs (not kidding)

we had someone not so long ago insisting they were with charter cable over our intercom, i told them we didn't have cable, then they said they were here to fix our internet and i told them we didn't have charter internet either. then maybe ten minutes later they were in the building pounding on our backdoor (eeesh, i can't think of a non gross way to say that!) inside the building saying they were here in install cable, there's no intercom access the back either, i woke mr. bird up and made him go tell them go away through the door, they bolted before he could even get his shoes on & there was no truck outside. i'm very sure they were up to no good.

If they come to the back door usually, because in that case it's *usually* a neighbor or friend. That wasn't the case today though. I'm going to stop answering though unless I can look through and see for sure who it is, DH got mad at me for answering today.

Generally, yes. But I live in a safe neighborhood. Although I do peek out the hole and if it looks like someone taking a survey or selling God or something I don't, just because those people annoy me.

Not usually. But I peak through the window at the door. Then point at the 3 large dogs to show why I'm not opening the door.

Eta: I live in a safe neighborhood, but about 10 years ago there was a serial killer in Baton Rouge who broke in and killed women in safe neighborhoods. You can never be too careful.

Oh, no way. I only open the door if I know the person, or for the mailman/UPS. We have a lot of weirdos in Portland!

I don't know why, but I am truly scared of opening the door when DH or someone else isn't here. Isn't that ridiculous?

My mom will talk to them through the door and say she can't open the door, because she has an aggressive dog. LOL.

We have security camera at our front door. I can usually check who it is before opening. Even still, if it's not a delivery person, I almost never open the door.

I opened the door for a man claiming to sell tree trimming services about 3 years ago. He kept wanting to come inside and sit down so he could show me prices and such and I said no. He left-no biggie. The very next day the same man was arrested right in front of my house for breaking into my neighbor's house. Apparently, the police had been tailing him.. Never again have I opened the door haha.

If I have makeup on, yes. If not; sometimes yes., sometimes no. Like @blackbird said, I lived alone for years so opening my own door without backup around was sort of a necessity.

I lived alone as well and open door. I don't allow anyone inside unless Im expecting them. I have lived in apt building and have neighbors near so generally have felt safe. Now with baby I am more alert to who is there opening the door.

Not anymore. We live in a building with an outside buzzer and an inside buzzer with video. After 5pm or so I don't even answer the outside buzzer anymore unless I know we are expecting some sort of delivery. Since I don't speak the local language, I can never understand what people want unless it is the post man announcing himself.
