Elf on the Shelf is something I only learned about last year from Pinterest. I think it would be so fun for our kid(s) to start & play this tradition someday, but DH is SOOO against it. Apparently a lot of his coworkers HATE it and try to end up destroying or losing the elf. 
Parents, what is your stance on the game? Yay or nay?

@rahlyrah: He said the kids won't stay in bed, get up really early to look for the elf, etc. One guy "oops" the dog ate the Elf!" And I said the poor kid must have been soo traumatized cuz they think he is real!

I thought it was such a cute idea and put it on my Amazon wish list but then I heard that a lot of ppl dislike doing it. I can see it becoming really annoying so I've decided against it. It just seems like one more thing to do every day.

I just don't understand why a "mischievous" elf is needed to teach kids to behave, so that they can get a big pile of presents at the end of the "game."

I don't know. I think it's kind of cute but I'm undecided. There are so many fun traditions that I don't know if that will make it's way in. We were always a big Advent Calendar family and I plan to do the same with our kids so that's another 'everyday' activity.

Probably not. In high school I babysat for a family that did it...the girls would get up at the crack of dawn every morning and run around looking for the elf. That alone is enough to make me not want to do it!

I think the idea is cute, but I'd rather do what we did growing up. We each had an advent calendar, and we each got a small gift in our stocking each morning (like a chapstick or something). Requires much less creativity on my part than the elf thing, lol.

I asked DH this over the weekend when we saw the book at Target. We will totally do it. I think that it is cute. I see how excited my nephews get over it. I think it is cute.

We got it this year for the first time! I'm excited to start this with the kids! We're not going to go all out, though. I've seen sime really cute ideas but we're just going to stick with the more lowkey approach of just moving the elf every night.

My SIL does this with her family, none of my sisters do it. DH and I are on the fence we both kind of find the Elf's creepy (especially SIL's) but noticed that the more recent ones are not as creepy. I think we probably will not do it, but if we do, DH has a creepy (to me not to my DH) Santa from his childhood that we may use as a subsitute.

we have one because my grandmother bought it for us, but it just sits in our tree right now...obviously, since LO is only 2 months. lol.

I think the things some moms come up with are so adorable and creative, but we won't do it. Too much pressure, and I also just don't like the idea of a tradition created around having to purchase a product, you know?
