DH and I just hired a cleaning service to do every other week house cleaning. I am so excited! The first day they come is on Valentine's Day. DH joked that that is my present.
This year, I'm all about streamlining our lives and making things easier on us so we can spend time doing what we actually enjoy - spending time together as a family. Yes, I could clean my own house, but that's precious time on the weekend that I would rather spend with my family!

not now, i used to. i don't have kids and work part time, so i don't have much an excuse to pay someone to clean up after me 
if we had it in the budget, i totally would though!

Yes! We just hired one for the first time this fall when I was about 6 months pregnant. Totally worth the investment because she does a much faster and more thorough job than I can with a job and two LOs.

Yes. I have no idea what I would do without them! Even though I know I would find a way to make it work, it is so much less stressful to think about managing upkeep versus cleaning!

When we lived in the states, no. Now that we live in Asia and hiring help is a lot more affordable we do have help and it's been dreamy. She only just started so we haven't been able to have date nights, yet! Waiting for our kids to be more comfortable with her first. That's great that you decided to hire someone to clean your house. It really gives you more time to do things on the weekend rather than clean. It is really tough trying to do everything yourself. I know it b/c I've been doing it for a really long time. I still do things myself even if we have help now. Just a habit, I guess.

Absolutely. I just can't clean over 2000 square feet on the weekends. We both work full time out of the home, and with a 3 year old, I'd rather be doing stuff with him.

@looch: Exactly we have about 4000 sq feet. There is no way I can clean all that, plus work FT and take care of my LO.

I kind of equate it to people hiring a lawn service. Sure, you can do it yourself, but that's not always the point.

@jedeve: This company does not do laundry, but they will change your bedsheets if you want them to. I prefer to do my own laundry anyway, since I'd be paranoid someone else would wash or dry something the wrong way!
But if someone did know the perfect way to do my laundry, that would be the cherry on top!

Honestly, I can't wait to do this! Once we get our house, I'd like someone to come once or twice a month to do a deep clean that we're not getting to.

@jedeve: @ms.janedoe: it definitely wasn't in our budget last year, but since the boys have moved up to a 1 year old room and we switch to a more affordable daycare, we now have the wiggle room to pay for it.

Yep. Best money ever spent.
I love coming home on cleaning days. We didn't have one for so long and housework was our number one battle.
She is far cheaper than marriage counseling.

@sunshineandsushi: hahaha we have lawn service too. DH works 60 - 80 hours a week. Last thing he feels like doing is mowing the lawn.

No. I'd love to have some help, but it's not in the budget. I make sure the house is not actually dirty, but it's never really neat.

we can't afford it here, but I might do it if we move to texas where it would be more affordable. another factor is we have a pretty small apartment now and might buy a house if we move (and hopefully I'll get pregnant this year too, so I might need help for a while then at least).

@littlek: we're seriously thinking about it for this summer. we have the lawn and the pool, it's just a lot for my husband to do on his own...my dad is retired, he keeps threatening to do it, lol.

We did for a year and it was fabulllouuusssss. But then our cat got sick and is on monthly meds that are quite expensive so our maid money had to get redistributed to cat pill money. Ah well… perhaps some day again

@babyjmama: the company we're using was started by a woman locally, so I think that's why it's more affordable than some other quotes I received. We're paying $85/visit. Another company my neighbor uses charges $59/hour for two maids to come. Typical time takes 2-2.5 hours (my house is around 2,000 sq ft).

@rahlyrah: I stay at home and think it's even more important I have one now -- I don't want to spend my days cleaning toilets! I do plenty of laundry and dishes and tidying every day without doing deep cleaning.

I had a service come in and wasn't happy with their work. I'm a control freak, and like cleaning everything myself. 
When we move, I might find a cleaning person to help though!

Yes, one of the perks of living in a developing country -- our nanny is a combo nanny/maid and she comes every day M-F. I am so spoiled I don't even remember how to clean. I really have to watch myself when I visit family and friends in the states.

@babyjmama: it probably would go up a bit for just a monthly visit, I think she quoted us $100 for a monthly visit. I asked around for some people who use cleaning ladies, versus a company and they paid around $100/visit.
I was all for just once a month but DH was pretty adamant about doing it every other week. So we're trying it out every other week and then will reevaluate if I feel like it's too much cleaning (doubtful, right??)
