I was terrified by the news and magazine covers about a shooting at McDonald's in 1984. Some crazy guy killed 20 something people that day in the San Diego area. I was only 5 at the time and I still remember it vividly. 
I want to keep LO away from all the scary news stories today...

I was in eighth grade when the shooting at Columbine happened. I remember that for sure.

I was also in middle school when Columbine happened. That is the only one I can remember.

I was in middle school during Columbine. That stands out. Other than that, I don't really remember any, but I also grew up in a fairly isolated area.

I was also in school when Columbine happened, 9th grade I think, and I was terrified.
I heard about more localized violence though, growing up in a suburb of Detroit, and that really scared me as well.
But the most vivid memory I have of being scared of violence was actually from an episode of Family Matters in the early to mid 90s when Laura's friend was shot for her tennis shoes. I can still remember the terror I felt after that.

I have very vague recollections of the Luby's shooting in Killeen, TX...probably because we were only a few hours away in San Antonio. I have a much clearer recollection of Jonesboro and Columbine. Those were when I started to understand what had happened...well as much as you can understand something like this.

I remember Columbine pretty vividly. I was 11 when it happened. That's the only one I remember from when I was a kid. I was in college when Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois happened.

Columbine for sure - I was only 10 at the time. I remember later reading the book called "She Said Yes" that was a collection of journal entries depicting the life of one of the students who was shot for saying she believed in Jesus. It was fascinating, I cried throughout the entire book.

I remember Regan being shot when I was little, but all the mass shootings happened while I was older.

Yes. I was a sophomore in high school when Colin Ferguson went on a shooting rampage on the LIRR (Long Island Railroad). He killed 6 people and wounded 19. That was huge.
Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, who has been on the news a lot in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting because she's big on gun control, lost her husband in the LIRR shooting and her son was one of the wounded.
