I root for the US and South Korea. I was born in Korea and lived there until I was 3, and lived in the States the rest of my life. Both countries are part of who I am!
Do you root for more than one country? Which ones and why?

USA and France out of family loyalty. I personally know one French athlete competing in track and field. She also competed in the London games and my FIL went to watch her.
Eta: my ILs are heavily involved in the local track and field club that is sending 5-6 athletes. My MIL went to the Beijing games as a special Olympics coach. We are visiting my ILs now and the Olympics coverage has been on since it started.

We always root for US and Sweden. And I always love to root for the underdog so any athlete from a small country and with a good story!

I always just cheer on the American team, but I always love an underdog story. This year I'll also be cheering on the athletes under the Refugee flag.

The US and Vietnam.
@OldpuebloJenn: Tell me more about the athletes under the refugees flag. Is this new for this year? I heard about it but haven't had the chance to look further into it.

Besides Team USA, I also pay particular attention to athletes from Japan & Hong Kong. These are places I've lived for significant parts of my adult life, so I feel somewhat of a cultural connection to them (and often feel like I can "relate" to the back story/life of the athletes, or was present for the fan craze surrounding their rise to fame).

@bluestriped bee: here's the team: http://www.unhcr.org/news/latest/2016/6/575154624/10-refugees-compete-2016-olympics-rio.html
The one getting all the press currently is an 18yo girl, Yusra from Syria. She's a swimmer and on the sea voyage to Turkey her "raft" was taking on water, she pushed it and the 20 other passengers to shore.

I know one Aruban and two Canadian athletes so I'll root for them in addition to the U.S. athletes.

I cheer for the three countries I have called home - USA, Australia, and Team GB, but I will always support USA over the other two if it's between them!

Canada in the winter and Australia in the summer - I usually end up coming out near the top!

Usually just the US, but I'll definitely be pulling for Team Refugee this year, as well. What a cool idea!

I always cheer on the US and depending on the sport I'll also cheer for Russia, Belarus, and The Netherlands.

In our household it's USA, UK and Egypt (did you know they have a beach volleyball team ). DH is 50% English, 50% Egyptian - so we span 3 countries with our fandom

I cheer on team USA & if we're not competing I root for the person or team with a) the best outfit or b) best story based on the commentators.
