We usually light a scented candle if we're expecting guests to make sure there is zero dog smell in our house (though I try REALLY hard not to let it get dog smelly in here). I also have a few reed diffusers here and there just to make things interesting.
Do you use household scents? What kind do you like? Fresh, sweet, earthy?

I'd say earthy, my husband takes care of scenting the house after dinner.
I have a couple essential oils I use to mask it though.

Yes! I have an old house...and it smells like old house 
so I buy pier one diffusers/candles/room spray in crisp bamboo.

@HLK208: that's a neat idea, you use the same scent all through the house. I get a little crazy and buy all the B&BW seasonal candles so I change it up all the time. I kind of like the idea of having a 'scent' that would be like our signature.

We use homemade baked scents in fall and winter and fun fruity scents in summer. Big fan of scentsy and b&bw wallflowers. I avoid lineny and floral scents.

We got an oil kit for Christmas and have been experimenting with nicer smells. Both of us are big lavender fans and I usually throw some lemongrass and tea tree oil in too. I need to get a better diffuser or something because my husband really does put up good competition.

@Maysprout: our house has been pretty dry the last few weeks so I've been running a humidifier and I have been adding some lavender essential oil to the water just for a bit of oomph. I find it super calming.

@autumnlove: I'm with you. I dislike the idea of covering up smell more than the original smell itself. Then I just smell the first smell and the overpowering second smell. No smells for me besides my cleaning supplies and whatever living smells like!

My husband has been washing his hair with Dr. Bronners lavender soap and I just want to eat him up afterwards. So instead of doing that I bought culinary lavender and have been sticking it in brownies, so delicious and smells great too.

I like candles. I like linen or just fresh, clean scents. I can't stand vanilla scented anything.

@katiew92081: @Mrs. Jacks: man I LOVE vanilla scented things. My mom hates them too so I rarely use them in our house. I read somewhere that putting two capfulls of vanilla extract in a oven save dish in a 350 oven for 20 minutes will make the whole house smell like heaven in 10 minutes. I wonder if that would bother you guys/her too?

I have a wax warmer plugged in that turn on when we turn our living room lights on. I am super paranoid about our house smelling like dog. I usually order from Scentsy and mix up the smell depending on the time of year-usually an apple/cinnamon or a light fresh scent.

Most scents will give me a headache, and some scents (like baked goods) make me nauseous. I'm really sensitive to scent and hate going to people's houses (my MIL) where there are candles burning. It's always way too strong and I have to sit there and be miserable or secretly blow out candles or unplug glade wall plugs.

I am not a huge scent fan, but I have somehow found myself with a stockpile of scentsy warmers and scents (coworker was selling and I felt bad for her). All of the baked good scents make me nauseous so if I have to pick, I choose fruity or soapy clean scents.
