Yes, it's called tried not to screw her up as an adult. Too much.
@Smurfette: LOL exactly!

@Smurfette: hahaha. The best I ever heard was "you're going F up your kid for life somehow. Just try not to make it major."

I incorporate a lot of RIE but not in an extreme way. I like the attitude. I think some of the concepts of AP are great but I don't really even think of those concepts as exclusive to AP. I just think of what people call AP as the specific set of tools that those specific parents use to accomplish an end. Especially before my daughters first birthday I though a lot about "is what I'm doing fostering trust and attachment or not?" I don't think RIE and the basic tenants of AP are at odds, with regard to attachment itself, although the techniques are. (For example, wearing babies vs lots of free play on the floor. But you still foster attachment and be responsive through RIE.) When LO was 16 months and done cutting molars I finally sleep trained her. But at that point I knew what the motn cries were and knew that our overall relationship was strong and cio wouldnt shake the bond that was already established.
I guess overall it's just a mix. I think so long as parents are interacting with their children in meaningful ways the kids tend to turn out just fine.

I'm so all over the place that I just do whatever works best for our family! We coslept for 4 months and baby wore a lot, but then sleep trained at 6 months. So we don't subscribe to just one idea or theory.

We lean AP but that's just what has worked out best for us not because I set out to follow the method.

I'm all over the place too. We did lots of wearing, blw, coslept but rarely cobedded. We basically do whatever works for us!

Whatever works, whatever keeps us close to baby, plus a healthy dose of lazy

We did the EASY routine but didn't sleep train til 13 months. I dot even know some of these acronyms! RIE? CTFD?

My style is prepare for the real world type. Stand up to bullys, prepare to fail sometimes and you get what you put in are key to my parenting style.

I've been attracted to many different methods, but they tend to stress me out and make me feel like I'm playing catchup. So for now I'm actively trying to avoid all of that until I can re-approach with a clearer head. A lot of times I feel like my son is not ready for certain things, like Montessori for example. He just isn't ready to do structured "work" and although I see the value I just can't make myself force him to do that now. I did like RIE when he was an infant but I only knew the basics. We did prop him a little so I guess we didn't follow it...you see what I mean! lol! Sigh...I guess the closest thing we did was Weissbluth and BLW, those we did follow but again, both methods really did seem to resonate with our particular baby.

@birdofafeather: I only know ctfd is calm the f down..the other one I have no idea even AP
I'm all over the place too

@birdofafeather: RIE is Resources for Infant Educators, and is officially a "thing". AP is attachment parenting. CTFD is more of a joke... it stands for Calm The Fuck Down, and is directed at parents who freak out over every little thing. JBBB is Just Babies Being Babies. .

I kind of just go on instinct. My end goal is to raise a child who has a healthy sense of attachment and whole feels respected and confident. I don't subscribe to any one method, but I guess I borrow from a few?
I babywear, do BLW, believe in gentle discipline and just generally think babies/children are wiser than they're often given credit for, so I believe in doing most things on my baby's time line, but still maintaining some structure (e.g. We follow pretty much the same schedule every day, but it's not one I imposed on her, so much as it is one that evolved as I watched her cues/needs, and it evolves regularly). But, for the most part, I don't overthink things and we just do our own thing....definitely a big dose of CTFD in how we do things around here
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
No particular theory, but for the most part I like to let her take the lead and do things on her own terms. So, BLW works for us, though I do occasionally spoon feed her- but she is pretty clear about telling me when she is done, or wants her water, just like she can tell me she's done bfing. Sleep is a mixed bag. And I let her play by herself as long as she is happy- some days that's longer than others.
I think she can tell me more about what she needs than a book, I guess.
That said we baby wore a LOT when she was teeny. It was the only way to make her nap!

All I can think is: "Duck & Cover". Yep, that's my parenting method. Seriously though, we tried to do EASY after DD was born, and it did not work for us. Her naps were way too short, so the cycle never worked the way it was supposed to.
pineapple / 12053 posts
@meganmp: i searched JBBB and found it spot on! ha.
@skibobrown: we just went with the short naps. i worried about the time frame for a couple weeks and then just went with it. she woke up after 20 minutes? no problem. feed her and start the whole thing over.

Haha I'm kind of loving the direction this thread took. I thought more people would adhere to a method based on the boards.
I'm fascinated by child development but methods stress me out and make me feel like I'm failing.
I have basic ideas that are important to me - clear consistent boundaries and expectations, recognizing and validating emotions, mutual respect, providing a balance of stimulation and down time, good nutrition, outdoors time and exercise, not focusing on material goods. But I'm not a fan of adhering to a single method.

I'm a big believer in the HB method. Ask for help when you need it, listen to advice when it's useful, offer advice when you think you have something helpful to say. Many mom I know IRL won't go near boards.

Nope. It's research based, which ends up being a combination of things but a lot (though not all) of AP.

I don't stick to any one thing. Little kids have such a variety of personalities I try to see what works best with each of my LOs than to stick to my guns about any particular philosophy.

We just go with the flow and try to enjoy it as much as possible. When things get rough, we do research.

@Corduroy: haha I like your answer
I do like the various perspectives. And when I finally decided to sleep train - the posts on successful CIO and support I received here was so valuable to me!

No one method, I actually haven't read anything about most of these methods. When I was in my birthing class they asked what parenting/pregnancy books I had read and I hung my head in shame. I read a ton of adoption books for our classes and training a but never any parenting books. Then I found out I would have three babies.... All I can say is there has not been a lot of time to read in the last five years.
We just do what works until it doesn't work and then we try something new.
