We take our shoes off. I've always wondered how people do it when their LOs start crawling..
I'd go crazy if my Lo had to crawl on a dirty floor.

As soon as we get home we take our shoes off. So much dirt and germs comes into the house if you wear your shoes in doors

I grew up taking my shoes off and change into comfy slippers. Maybe it's a cultural thing (chinese)?
Now at my home, I'm the same way and DH does the same thing as well.

Nope! However, if we have guests over and they wear their shoes in, we don't ask them to take it off. I do quickly vaccum after they leave. My house is dirty enough as is, I don't need assistance tracking it in!

We take our shoes off as soon as we come in - and take winter boots off in our entryway so not to track dirt/snow/salt in.

I hate shoes so I take them off whenever I can. But I don't not allow people to wear shoes in our house. Plus, my feet are probably dirtier then the floor. I'm always in the garage barefoot.

We wear our shoes inside but not for long periods of time. I'll get ready in the bedroom and put my shoes on in there and then walk around a bit before I leave. We plan to replace our carpet because it is original to our house and is old. We really want hardwood floors. I'd be more hesitant to wear them on new floors.

Definitely not!! I don't understand that ...you don't know what gross things are on your shoes.
honeydew / 7968 posts
nope. no shoes in the house. not sure how people actually sleep in shoes too! or socks. lol.

No, no no! It drives me CRAZY when guests come over and walk into our house with their shoes on. Especially when they see all our shoes outside.
Every now and then my MIL will go "my shoes are clean I just cleaned them can I run in to grab something". But you were just OUTSIDE! It drives us bonkers but we say ok...
When LO is here I think we might have to start saying no...

No shoes in the house, but if people come over and don't take their shoes off, we let them keep them on. Whatever is comfortable for them, but that will probably change once the LO arrives and starts crawling.

@artbee: What do you do in the garage all the time? haha.

no shoes in our house. we're in japan so no one wears shoes inside, which is nice because we never have to ask visitors to take their shoes off.

I'm a no shoes in the house person, but my husband grew up in a traditional American household and seems to forget to take his off sometimes. It also always irks me when friends leave theirs on when they come to our house, but I'm not going to say anything. At least they don't usually come upstairs with them and I mop after they leave.

DH and I take off our shoes when we come inside - I wear UGG slippers (winter) or flip flops (summer). We don't ask guests to take their shoes off and it doesn't annoy me when people wear shoes in our house....LO isn't here yet, though : )

I cringe when guests leave their shoes on in my house (we have a rack right by the door where all our shoes live and we take them off when we come inside), but I tend to not say anything.

I take my shoes off before I walk through the house. DH usually does but sometimes doesn't. He sometimes leaves them in the bedroom. Ugh, annoying. I do sometimes walk through the house with my shoes on if I'm on my way out and I forgot something.

We leave ours on because the hard wood is cold. But I try to take them off if I am a guest somewhere.

Always take them off. When I watch TV I always notice that they NEVER take off their shoes!

Shoes off at our house. I've never had to ask guests to take theirs off either. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but everyone just takes them off when they enter.
It always grosses me out when people on tv wear shoes on the bed!

Shoes off in our household. Ironically, I'm the one who slips up sometimes and I'm Korean. Dh grew up in a traditional American home and still prefers the no shoes policy.
pomegranate / 3983 posts
We switch to flip flops when we get home, and in LO's play area we take those off as well!

no shoes in our house. the only people who keep theirs on are delivery men..i usually wipe down the floor right after their leave. Other than that, everyone either knows to take their shoes off (my family & friends) or they are super polite and ask if they should take their shoes off.
oh yeah, and our dog. haha. it drives me crazy when my dog steps in his own pee and then walks into our house. yuck.

No shoes and no pants! Ha ha..just kidding, but I do take off my shoes and change into comfy clothes almost instantly.
pear / 1787 posts
I didn't grow up with a no-shoes-in-the-house rule, but I take mine off at home and put on slippers anyway, just to be more comfy. It doesn't bother me when people leave their shoes on. I'd probably care if I owned my own home and had nice carpet!
pear / 1861 posts
We have a no shoe policy too. I clean the floors after the pest control man comes every 3 months. (No, we don't have roaches.LOL It's a preventive measure, never know what can come in.) I'm thinking of getting a carpet cleaner, for real. I'm already so germaphobe, I put her on a blanket on the floor.LOL
pineapple / 12793 posts
Shoes off in my house! I cringe when workmen come in with muddy boots. It takes a lot of self control to not follow them with a mop.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
No shoes, but we have all tile floors, so it's easy to clean up if people come visit and they leave their shoes on. I don't demand that they remove them, but if they do great. If not, that's fine too.
Shoes on carpet or upholstery is what gets me grossed out. I can't even think about it.
clementine / 861 posts
The people who owned our house before us thought that it would be a good idea to install white carpet throughout the house. Only the kitchen and bathrooms were spared, so we have had to switch to a no shoes in the house policy.
nectarine / 2797 posts
We don't mind shoes in the house, although we tend to take them off for comfort pretty soon after we get home.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
We wear our shoes in the house but I have a problem with wet shoes in the house. My husband's parents came to visit for 5 days and they never took their shoes off (maybe when they went to sleep they did)? Anyways, it was wet out and his Dad would come in and be squeak squeak squeaking all across the floor and then step onto the carpet like that's where you dry your shoes! I was so flustered but I don't have a good way of talking to his Dad...we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things so I keep quiet on stuff until I can pass it on to my husband who will mention it to his Dad if it's important to do so.
I hate house guests and their shoes. I think when we have a crawler, our house will be shoe-free.
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@mediagirl: Ahhhhhh! That would drive me crazy. I make everyone take their shoes off before coming in. Even the cleaning ladies!
Perhaps you should start practicing the shoes off policy now? hehe. Deep carpet cleaning + floor cleaning before babyH comes along!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@chopsuey119: seriously, we are going to put hardwoods in our living room just so I can get rid of our nasty carpet that I'm so fed up with. We've only been in the house 5 years, too! At least wood and tile aren't as hard to clean as carpet.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
we have carpet in the living room and it's disgusting. i always take my shoes off - i have a little sign hung up next to the door - but DH NEVER DOES! it drives me batty. because he tracks dirt all over the place.
