They live 20 minutes away and I'd say it's a good distance. Close enough where she can watch LO while I'm working, but far enough away. My mom's entire family (parents, aunts, uncles, etc.) pretty much live on her street and it can be difficult. Too much drama and closeness sometimes!

Yes, especially now that I'm pregnant. They are in Texas and we are in Illinois. Luckily they come up several times a year and always are here for Christmas. I know it will be harder once the babies are here and my parents are far away though.

Ditto! Parents live in CA (4-5 hour flight). We see them 4x a year and skype at least once a week, but it'd be great to live closer.

Both my parents and in laws live about 30-40 min away. It wasn't until I had kids that I appreciated having my parents around...before then, my parents always had drama amongst themselves so I stayed as far away as I could...

My parents are moving to Georgia soon...Im going to miss them and am very sad my kids won't be seeing them as often as they do now. They love their grandparents.

YES! YES! YES! It's not going to happen, but it would be amazing! I live in MD and they live in OR. We do talk almost every day, but I'd be amazing if we lived closer. The flights in between are daunting with a super active 1 year old!

Yes. They live on the other side of the world. We're trying to move back home in the near future but we may not be able to figure out jobs etc. for two to three years.

My parents live about a 10 minute drive away. It is awesome! When she was a baby they'd come and drop off food all the time or grab some groceries for me while they were out shopping for themselves. They always babysit so I can get out of the house for a bit by myself or so we can go out on a date night. Now that she's older they come see her at least 2x a week for an hour or two or we go over there for a short visit. It's nice bc we can do short frequent visits and don't have to spend an entire day getting there like some of our friends. It's also not a big deal for my mom to stay over for the night bc she can just run back home and get stuff as she needs. My parents are staying at our place to watch LO for 5 days so just the 2 of us can get away. Moving to be closer to family was the best decision ever!

It takes about 3 minutes to walk to my moms house. If I lean pretty far over the balcony, I can see her roof. I love it! My dad and Grandparents live in walking distance. FIL lives about a 10 min drive away. MIL and her hubs live about a 20 min drive away for about half the year. For the other half they live on a different continent which is ideal If only it was longer than about half a year.

I love living near my family, I couldn't move away. I see my mom basically everyday, mostly to walk the dogs together and have tea.

We live about 40 min from my parents and 10 minutes from my in-laws. I only wish it was a more equal distance since I think historically we have spent a lot more time visiting DH's parents since they are closer.

Yes, my mom seems so lonely sometimes. I wish she would move closer. 45 minutes away is such a drag.

Yes. We are 3 hours away. I'd take walking distance if I could!

All parents live abput 10 minutes away and it works out well. We're going to eventually move about an hour from here but it won't make much difference. They'll still come see us.

Both my parents are retired and live in the same town as we do. I never cared about bring close to them before my son was born, honestly, but they help a lot.

My mum lives a forty five minute walk away (it's about a 5 minute drive) and my inlaws are 8 miles away - we can be there in 10 minutes in the car. I do wish they lived closer, though! I can't believe I'm actually saying that!!

My parents live an hour away. I wish it was only 30 minutes because I feel bad when I need them to come over for some reason (like bringing a ladder to change the batteries of my smoke detector because I'm a moron who didn't own a ladder).

I have lived halfway across the world from my parents for ten years now and go through cycles where I wish we lived closer so I could spend holidays with them and go camping together or whatever but then one or both of them come out to visit for a month and I get so annoyed and frustrated, I realize the reason we have such a positive relationship is solely due to the distance! I love my parents but they drive me absolutely insane!

We are moving MUCH closer in a couple of months (like a few states away) and even though we will not be within easy distance, I am getting a little nervous. My mom just emailed me saying, "I can't wait until you are living in the US again so I can call you all the time and we can talk instead of having to type up emails." A shudder actually passed through me at those words. I bet you anything she'll be calling every single day, like she used to do to my sister until my sister began ducking her calls and avoiding her. LOL, this should be interesting

It's funny because we originally thought we would be moving closer to my in-laws on the other side of the US and my only stipulation to my husband was that we had to find a house that was about 45 minutes to an hour away from his parents. Close enough for weekend get togethers and the occasional dinner, but too far for random drop bys without calling ahead of time (like my SIL says our MIL does to her all the time to visit my niece).

I kinda feel horrible for admitting all of that but honestly, I have a fabulous relationship with my parents and my in-laws as well as BIL, SIL, and my sister, etc and I really do think the reason why is because of the physical distance we have had because it seems like we're the only ones who get along with everyone, LOL.

I have the upmost respect for all of you who live extremely close to their family and have a great relationship with them. I am amazed and slightly jealous
