Do you wish you lived closer to your parents?

We are an hour away from both of our parents, and I miss mine so much! We don't have much free time to go home to see them, so it has become a once every couple of months thing, which does not work for me.

My parents should be moving up our way in the next year or two, and both SO and I are looking forward to it.

I live about 4 hours from my parents (and extended family) currently. It's not a terrible drive, but I do wish it were a little closer. I don't want to be in the same town as my parents, but I would like to be around 1-2 hours away so I could see my family and use my mom's help more often. We will be moving within the next year (DH's Ph.D program will be done) and are hoping for Milwaukee or Chicago area because that will put is about 1-1.5 hours away.

My in-laws live in North Carolina which is a 16 hour drive. We usually drive so we can bring our dog. I really love it out there and I think I would love living out there, but it would be hard to be so far from my family. I kinda hope my in-laws will move close to us when my FIL retires, but they love NC so I'm not sure that will happen!

Yup, my mom is super grandma. If we lived close to my mom she would watch our LO(s) while we're at work. She'll cook us so much yummy food, always be available to babysit, watch overnight, etc etc. I wish all the time that we lived closer to her. I'll be lying if I said I don't sometimes regret our decision to raise our kids in our current city because we're so far from my mom.

My mom and sister live about 15 minutes away which is awesome. My mom takes care of DS while I work and he'll have sleepovers at their house. Now if only my in-laws lived that close too then it would be perfect! They are about an hour away.

Both of our parents are still in our hometown, which is 1.5 hours away. It's not far, but it's far enough that we can't just have an impromptu date night and call on one of the grandparents to come babysit. We are very seriously considering moving back to our hometown, since ALL of our family are there now, including our siblings and their kids. I am trying to stand firm, though, on a 20-30 minute buffer zone between us and the grandparents, though (especially his parents) to avoid the dreaded "we were in the neighborhood and thought we'd drop by!" But that's going to be a tough battle, I think.

I'm only two hours away, but I wish I lived in the same town as them. They travel a lot, would never stop by unannounced, and are positive people.

Yes, 100% wish we were closer to my parents. Since having LO it's only gotten "worse." My mom - and extended family- all live in NJ and would all do a lot of babysitting and visiting. The only reason we're still in FL and not there is because of how hard it is to move from a more affordable city to a really expensive place to live. We still hope to make the move in the future.

My mom lives less than a mile away and I love it. I walked there in the snow yesterday. I used to live about 2 hours away and it was okay but when my parents had cancer I realized I never wanted to be that far. I'm glad I'm close by now.

    @Adira: LOL!

Yes! My parents are 45 mins away but I wish it was closer so we could borrow their truck when we need too and so they could stop in and see R more. Now it is like a day thing. Or if they babysit I feel like we need to get home early cause they have a far drive home.

I do!! I actually stayed close to my parents my entire life, and when I was 28 they finally moved away from ME. For my dad's job. I'm still in the state I grew up in...!!

I am hoping they will move back when they retire, and they have talked about it extensively, but it won't be for another 5 years or so. By then my kids will be 9 and 6 (yikes!). Kinda sad but at least they might be here permanently.

My ideal would be for my parents to live about 30 mins away from me and my MIL to live 1.5-2 hours away from me.

I wish that my mother lived closer. She decided to move 1,000 miles away several months before I got pregnant. Thanks, Mom! My in-laws help my BIL and his wife a lot. They would never move closer to us, and I don't want to live where they are.

Yes! My parents are awesome! We're considering a love back to my home state in a few years. It will still be several hours away, but much closer than we are now.

Yes, I definitely wish my parents (and MIL) were closer. Especially once we have a LO. We have no family in our current state, so I know that will be tough as LO grows up.

No, both of our parents live 5-10 minutes away from us. That is close enough thankyouverymuch.

    Yes and no.

Yes bc my parents are super helpful and mean well. And I miss my dad's awesome cooking. *drool*

No bc my parents well meaning can be annoying/overwhelming sometimes. They constantly question why I do a certain thing or wonder why DS isn't doing this or that yet or why he got sick, etc. So the distance allows me to field this and give me some sanity.
