So they announced the casting of the live-action JEM movie and I was about to text my Nashville-watching coworker b/c Layla Grant is Jem. THEN i realized she would have no idea who Jem is.
And she doesn't.
I am old. I would bow, but I'd probably break a hip.

Jem and the Holograms was an amazing '80s cartoon that focused around a rocking girl band headed by a rich heiress who could transform from Jerrica Benton to Jem, her alter-ego, by touching her earrings. She also had a hologram named Synergy to do her bidding (well, she basically was a pre-iphone-Siri) and ran an orphanage. The Holograms was also the name of the band...and there was a bad chick band called the Misfits.
Every doll came with a musical instrument and a TAPE of one of the band's "songs."

I'm aware of JEM, but I never watched it. I work with all men too, but I'm certain at least a few would know who Jem is.

LOL DH mentioned this a couple of days ago... He was like wow they are doing a live action JEM movie!!! He told me so excitingly and I just started at him blankly. I didn't know who that was! I must have missed the boat on that show when I was younger.
