The hygienist chats way too much and the dentist is nice but all business.

My hygienist is nice and super chatty but asks a lot of questions, and I'm like, uhhhh.... Because she's all up in my mouth and it's not like I can respond lol

I just went to a new dentist last night! The dentist and hygenist were both very chatty, even DURING my cleaning and would ask me questions while they had their hands in my mouth. I made some weird noises in response, haha. That was a bit awkward.

It was a fancy new office... they had an adjustable flat screen right in front of the chair and I could choose what I wanted to watch on Netflix! That was a first!

@snowjewelz: oh my I do NOT want anyone talking or asking questions while in my mouth! That's the worst! I was thinking in regard to talking before the cleaning began. Otherwise I am like, "uh uh huh!...?"

The hygienist usually does polite convo before business just like my dentist- polite, feel comfy, get to business. I am a nervous dental patient... same with getting blood drawn but once I survive I compliment them and we usually laugh/ joke about how quiet I was

The hygienists at my office are pretty chatty, but I've been going there literally my entire life so I know most of them.
My dentist is also a family friend, so we chat a bit before he checks my teeth.

They're chatty.

i'm a hygienist... and i'm naturally pretty extroverted (i think you have to be to be a good hygienist, for the most part). but i think i'm also pretty good at reading people. i like to think i can tell if someone is more comfortable with silence or with talking. and i always take my hands out of their mouth if i ask a question!

i think it's fairly appalling they would come into the operatory and just start the appointment without so much as a hello. they at least need to confirm your medical history and ask if you have any concerns... those are obligatory questions i always ask before starting an appointment. and i think you need to have a bit of a chat to establish a comfort level and assess if they have anxiety, any issues, if they're in general good health - there's a lot you can tell from the initial conversation!

you're never gonna please everyone. i'm sure people have walked away from my chair being like omg she talks too much. but i have had numerous patients say they love how chatty i am and how they feel they get to know me and it makes them more comfortable with their appointments... so ya can't win em all.

Hahahaha!! This thread cracks me up. I always introduce myself before getting up in patients business. The bad part is I don't always remember patients on the hygiene schedule if you haven't been back for restoration because I see way too many people so I introduce myself to people I already know! I need to get my hygienists to tell me if I've seen someone before so I don't look like I can't remember anything!

I have some patients I chat way more to. I actually find it difficult to talk to my patients, they normally go mute and won't talk to me!

We chat. I've been going to the same dentist since I was 5 and I really like him!
