Once in a while but I try hard to not take it personally because I know they both think I'm a great Mom. I tell myself they are makin comments about the baby, not me.

I am on day 10 with new baby, and on week one of three with MIL here from across the country.

I struggle......to say the least with the comments. She is trying to help, wants nothing but the best, and I understand that. It's still tough learning to be a new parent, I am really interested in finding my way on my own/with DH, let alone constant comments/suggestions. I know my DH sacrificed a lot moving away from home, so having her here for him is important, trying to remember that. Know I will miss the cooking she is doing when she's gone, but also looking forward to being on my own....I like my space. I don't say anything back, I vent to DH instead (though, I need to stop that, I know it bugs him) and am trying to remember she does mean well (she is a retired nurse, knows her stuff!!) and that it's short term. Oye.

My MIL has made comments and the baby isn't even here yet! She's very much a know-it-all though. My mom is very unimposing. She said we'll figure it out and learn from our mistakes.

I was pregnant for about 10 weeks (miscarried) and in those short weeks, my MIL told me that I was "absolutely crazy" for considering cloth diapering. That breastfeeding was nasty, and that it was stupid to have a nursery because "a good mom has her baby in her room"

..whhhaat!

My mom is not intrusive and only offers advice- key word being "offers", not telling me how to do things and thinking i'm a bad person for not doing things her way

My MIL doesn't, she's very cognizant of it. My mom on the other hand is so guilty of it! She makes comments about how everyone handles baby! In her mind her way is the best way. Love her and she's a amazing grandma but drives me batty sometimes!

My mom is good.. I actually don't mind her suggestions. She never criticizes me directly so I suppose it's all in the delivery.
My MIL, on the other hand... she hasn't said a lot, but one time when she was holding LO, she did this thing where she started asking him, "Do your parents read stories to you? Do your parents sing songs to you?" Like, as if she could pass along things she thought a "good mother" would do by asking my LO if I was doing them right in front of me!

@Pink Champagne: What!? That is so rude! I would be so mad...

My mom doesn't say anything because I'm pretty sure she has no recollection of how to raise / take care of a baby. I wish I were joking but I'm not.

My mil has made comments along the lines of putting our LO to bed too early or making him nap too much but otherwise she is pretty good. I think I lucked out!

My mom has already offered up lots of intense info. She's also puts down the advice I get from my friends (that I ask for). I'm already bracing myself for the storm
