My in laws live nearby but my parents live in a different part of the state. My parents are coming soon and they want to make plans with MIL and FIL. I'm glad they get along but I wish they wouldn't hang out because they like to gang up on me about parenting and quitting my job when they get together!

We'll all do something occasionally together, but not regularly. My mom was actually in a Jewish women's club when we were little so they have known each other a long time.... even though DH and I didn't meet until 5 years ago.

They totally would, if they lived closer to each other. They'll get their fix of each other this July though, for two weeks.

I'm in a pretty unique "Full House"-y situation living with DH, my mom, my dad AND MIL. The parents get along famously and they let DH and I have our privacy and independence. As much as I might complain about living like this for a year (ending in June!!), I'm still so glad that our parents get along instead of the opposite.
So the short answer is yes, they do hang out!

Yes. Actually, it would really annoy me before LO came along. They would make plans with each other for parties, traveling, etc. without even telling us! They even all went on a big group trip cruise to Alaska (without us!) It just seemed weird and I'd have to learn about it through my ILs instead of my own parents. But in the end, it's good they get along.

Nope. My parents live in a completely different state than my in-laws. They do inquire about the other once in awhile, but even if they lived closer, language barrier would be hard to overcome apart from a general greeting/conversation.

No, they really don't have a ton in common. However, because they live near each other they see each other when we go home and they are always polite and get along with each other but they never hang out without us there.

hehe no. It's actually pretty entertaining when they get together for holidays and stuff, because they are SO different.

Nope. My mom feels super defensive and protective of me around my ILs because of stupid stuff they've done/said...My dad just thinks they're annoying.

When they are visiting at the same time they hang out. They get along really well.

yep! all the time. we vacation together and they vacation without us 1-2 times a year too. they are really good friends! my mom and MIL and pretty much BFFs.

@ineebee: Your situation sounds SO interesting and worthy of a blog post on non-traditional living arrangements. Though perhaps it is pretty traditional by the standards of some cultures. I may be alone in this, but I think it actually sounds kind of fun! Am I crazy?
Our parents get along pretty well, but they see each other rarely since one set is in Indiana and the other is in the UK.

We all go to dinner together, but they never hangout without us. They do have a lot in common though!

Yep they do. We have gone on vacations together and they have gone without us. I like it. It makes holidays and celebrations easy since we just do it all together all the time.

Six months ago my mom and MIL went to the casino together. I don't think that is going to happen again. lol

No. They live so far away from one another, and my in-laws rarely leave there hometown. They will probably see each other with LO gets here, but other than that, they haven't seen each other since we got married six years ago.

Not anymore. They would have, but we had a big horrible family fight last year and no one likes each other anymore

Yep, I actually grew up knowing DH and his entire family, so our parents were friends long before we got together!

FIL lives in New York but rents a place and stays down here about 3 months out of the year. When he's here, we hang out as a group -- me, DH, my dad and stepmom and FIL. FIL and my dad get along really, really well. They wouldn't ever hang out together without us, but that's just because it doesn't make sense to when FIL wants to see us as frequently as he can when he's here.
