S was the only baby under 3mths wearing actual clothes at our baby group yesterday. Some of the over 3mths had sleep suits on too. I assumed it was the norm to have seperate day and night wear... Maybe not. What does your LO wear?

In her first three months, she mostly wore sleepers. I had a lot of cute hand-me-downs that I did end up putting on her, though because she spit-up a LOT. Haha. Usually, I would put her in something cute to go out and then right before we went out, she would puke on something and I'd stick her in a sleeper.

@illumina: When LO was a newborn, I would change him out of sleepers into "day clothes." But I am a clothes addict, so I'm sure I'm not normal.

I always switched her into "real" clothes. Even if it was changing from a sleeper into a onesie and leggings. Im a little nuts though. I dont wear sweats and PJs out of the house, so I didnt want her to either.
ETA: The only thing I never put on her was jeans. We didnt do real jeans until she was mobile/walking.

I've always dressed C in day clothes, even when he was a newborn. I just think mini clothes are fun
pomelo / 5720 posts
I always dressed him in regualr clothes. We left the house usually once a day. Same with @loveisstrange, I wouldn't wear my PJ's out of the house either.

We didn't do day clothes until about three months. I was too tired to care.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Mine only had a diaper on allll the time. She barfed on EVERYTHING. If we left the house, it was the footie things or onesies with giant bibs. But, honestly, she went half naked most of the time. It felt weird when she started daycare and I suddenly had the dress her and put real clothes on her!

DS wore day clothes - I couldn't resist baby jeans and button down shirts! Too cute
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
Usually a plain white onesie until she was around 6 weeks. I was too overwhelmed to put her in anything else.

Xander's 8 months and still mostly wears sleepers! I'm too lazy to dress him in real clothes.

My son was 6 months old when I finally started dressing him for the day. I couldn't imagine him being comfortable in anything else!
eta: if we were going somewhere, I had a bunch of one piece outfits, they weren't pajamas, but still one piece. I couldn't handle more than that, lol.

No way. We did sleep n plays until he was 4 months. Personally it looks like a lot of work and not very comfortable for the LOs to be in real clothes! Plus he spat up so it was frequent changes.

Baaahhaah, I'm pretty sure I don't even HAVE anything but sleep n' plays for baby girl... I keep trying to justify it by saying it'll be a long, cold, MN winter so she will be warmer in them...right? Right?
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
The only thing I would not put on LO is a zip up hoodie. I didn't think it made sense since he was laying down all the time and the zipper seemed rough on his skin.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
yep, we did day clothes, even if it was just a onesie+pants most days.
watermelon / 14467 posts
I change her into a onesie and leggings for the day. I only have one dress for her and it's too cold to wear it.
pineapple / 12526 posts
I just wanted to add that I felt it helped us distinguish day and night. We made changing clothes part of our morning and bedtime routines as a sleep cue.

We did Sleep n Play if we were at home (majority of the time we were due to cold weather) but if we went out of the house I would usually dress her in a cute outfit.

Not for the first 6 weeks but then it turned into a super hot summer so I would put rompers/comfy breathable outfits on him. I always wanted him to be comfy and a lot of the cute clothes I saw didn't look it.
eggplant / 11716 posts
I always dress her in a "real" outfit each day. And I make her wear something especially cute if we are going to
Play group! Over the summer when it was SUPER hot, I would put her in a cute romper at least, since we walk everywhere and didn't want her to overheat- but never just a onesie.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
DS was in onesies during the day and a side snap shirt for bedtime when he was a newborn.
Now, he's in PJs at night and wears day clothes during the day. Unless we stay home then he stays in his PJs

We received a ton of hand-me downs that were almost all onesies and pants and tops. I bought a bunch of sleepers and prefer to dress my LO in those. But at about 2 months I felt bad that we hadn't really used any of the outfits we received, so about every other day I put her in one, or if we're going out. Honestly though, it would be sleepers only for the first few months if we hadn't inherited anything.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I put her in something cute if we are going somewhere usually- but that might be a onesie and leggings. If we don't have plans she frequently wears a sleeper. I feel like I'm always trying to get her to nap so I want her in something I can just put a swaddle it sleep suit right over.
I do usually change her when she is up for the day, it just might be from one pj like thing to another.
Then again, fitted yoga pants are my "going out to run errands" outfit, as opposed to the loose ones I wear at home

I always dressed her in clothes when she was a newborn but when she started wriggling around and practicing her rolling/ grabbing etc, I realised that her cute jeans and bulky cardigans were actually restricting her movement. Now, at 3 months, I dress her in a cute outfit if we are going out somewhere but if we are staying at home I put her in a clean sleeper - it gives her freedom of movement.

I agree with loveisstrange, I put LO in day clothes regularly by 6-8 weeks as a day/night cue.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
I normally did because It was summer and T ran hot. He definitely wore outfits when we went to lunch, dinner, playgroups, etc.
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
I would put her in a onesie and pants during the day when she was small and PJs at night.
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
Always! It's part of the fun of having a girl for me.
FWIW, all of my mommy friends changed their newborns/LO's into day clothes for playdates etc.
nectarine / 2220 posts
I got a fair bit of very small "real" clothes so I changed her into them most days just because I felt guilty if they never got worn. She was a summer baby so had a ton of dresses given to us that I wanted to make sure she wore before it got too cold even if they would have fit longer.
And I tend to be like the other posters that said they don't wear PJs or sweats out except to the gym, so I didn't want her to either, but I also like her to be comfy for naps.
pomelo / 5469 posts
@loveisstrange: same with the day/night thing. She had that down so early too, maybe as a result, I'm not sure. I don't put her in jeans either, or dresses. It has to be comfortable for naps!
@photojane: definitely! and baby clothes are so cheap in our supermarkets, I pick several things up every time I do the food shopping!
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
We did sleep n plays the LARGE majority of the time unless we had somewhere special we were going. But we also had a November baby so it was cold all the time. If I had a summer baby I probably would have put her in onesies during the day to keep her cooler.
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
@MamaMoose: mine was a November baby too so we had her in sleep gowns at night and changed to the sleep&play for the day...so she had different day clothes but they looked kind of pjs. She slept all the time she I preferred keeping her in comfy clothes and for some I felt like all pants looks like the waistband was so tight even though the pants were huge in the legs...maybe my baby just had a belly
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ms.janedoe: RIGHT! Rock the sleep 'n plays as long as you can, girlfriend! Xander's going to be 1 before I start dressing him in real clothes, haha.
grapefruit / 4819 posts
LO wore day time clothes from the very beginning! Way too many cute clothes out there to keep her in a sleeper all day long! She was a massive spitter upper but we kept bibs on her and just changed those. Love little baby clothes!
pomelo / 5041 posts
We put our lo in day clothes after the first few weeks but my DH hates babies in pants so it's usually these long outfits without feet. We have so many outfits that I feel a need to dress him in day clothes before he grows out of them without ever wearing them (like he just did to a ton of his newborn clothes).
pomelo / 5469 posts
@marionberry: I found a day outfit she hadn't worn, until yesterday- the legs were already too short! Retiring clothes already is so sad!
