No, he will be fine! I feel the same guilt, but sometimes A is okay when I start my shower and starts crying after I am in there. I just finish up as quick as I can, but there have definitely been times where he has had to just cry through it for 5 or 10 minutes.

Yup. You gotta do what you gotta do. I have an older daughter so I have to take of her, too, and that is usually when the baby needs to wait!

Yes, I do. She has started to fuss for no reason, so if I need to get something done, I let her be fussy. If she's full, has a clean diaper, and is safe, sometimes there's just nothing I can do. I only started doing it recently, like in the last week, and I've already seen an improvement in her self-soothing skills, so I don't feel bad.

yeah, mine just cried sometimes. If i was in the shower, going to the bathroom, hands deep in a raw chicken, etc. Around 8 weeks, my LO started to enjoy her mobile, so I could set her on her back in the crib and she'd just look up and watch it. Maybe try that?

Not an answer to your specific question, but do you have a swing? LO is 9 weeks now and up until maybe a week or two ago the swing was pretty much the only place I could put her down and walk away without her crying. She's starting to be into her activity mat, bouncy seat with the toys attached, and probably would love a mobile (we don't have one). Some of those might be worth trying, or trying again if it's been a few weeks? I had given up on the bouncer because she didn't like it but just tried it again recently and she is mesmerized by the toys - I get like 20 minutes of entertainment out of it!

@Revel: The swing is a lifesaver!! It's the only place he'll zone out and fall asleep in during the day (other than on me). Best $$$ I've ever spent.

I feel absolved of some of my guilt now! I feel awful when C cries even for like 30 seconds but I have to get over it. I mean, I need to shower at least occasionally

Do you put her in the bathroom when you shower? Once I realized I could stick him in his rock n play in the bathroom with a couple of toys as I showered, it was life changing! He was safe in the rock n play, liked the white noise and moisture from the shower, and I got to take a shower in peace. I removed my outer curtain for a while and just had the clear plastic one, because I wanted to see him, but I eventually put our curtain back once I realized he was safe.

No advice on the naps, unfortunately. My Lo napped on me for probably the first four months, and I kinda loved it.

oh yeah, for sure we let him cry as a newborn :). not too terribly long, but he was fine to cry for a few minutes (maybe up to 20?) if i knew he was otherwise ok and things needed to be done etc.

i felt bad sometimes, too, but he self soothes so well now, i think it was the right thing to do at the time

I didn't personally, but I also had my Mom around in the newborn days to hold her when I needed to shower or eat.

Have you tried putting him in a bouncer in the bathroom? Would it help him to be able to see you?

@rahlyrah: you're right! I guess I was thinking babywearing to satisfy the need to get other things done. But for pumping and showering just read my other comment
