I had my 36 week appointment this morning and asked my OB when I'd start having cervical checks, and I was surprised to learn that the practice doesn't do them.

She said that since the dilation measurements don't mean much before actual labor, and since the checks can be painful, they don't see the point in doing them at regular checkups. And there's always someone on call at the hospital so it's not like they need to do the checks to plan staffing ahead for labor.

I'm not disappointed about this. I wasn't looking forward to the checks and I'm totally fine with not getting them done. But I was surprised.
