Yes, mine doesn't measure. She does the doppler, no ultrasound and she feels around to see where my uterus has grown to. I didn't even know that some doctors use a measuring tape! I'm 26 weeks, for reference. Maybe at the next appointment?

That's so weird..! I forget when mine started measuring me though.. maybe he'll start at 30 weeks?

Interesting too. I started getting measured around 20 weeks, but I have a friend who said her doctor didn't start measuring her until a lot later! I think measuring sometimes matters sometimes doesn't?

i don't want to get measured. it will be mostly fat. yuck.

My midwife started measuring at 28 weeks. Before that it was all determined by how many fingers above/ bellow the belly button my uterus should be.

My doc started measuring me at 20 weeks, but I read somewhere that it's common to begin measuring at 28 weeks.

@Running Elley: oh my god, i'm embarrassed, hahah! i was measuring around my waist, like they'd do at a tailor or something =/ so i actually don't know how to properly measure either. i bet you they have a youtube video on how to do it though!

I didn't get measured till later in my pregnancy. I can't remember exactly what week it started.

Mine started measuring at 20 weeks or so. I just had my 28 week apt ( I am 28+4 though) and measured at 29. I've been measuring a week ahead since they started measuring. It's from the pubic bone to the top of my uterus which is already almost to my breast line. I don't see how it can possible grow up any higher.

The OB I work with measures every time =) I think she's a little old school though.

@Running Elley: I switched doctors, the old one measured, this one doesn't. I just do it myself sometimes for fun. You need to measure from the top of your pubic bone (the lowest point you would want your swimsuit bottoms to start) to the top of your uterus (the point at the top of your bump where you fingers can go inwards again). The measurement should equal about 1cm per week of pregnancy.

My doctor never did that fundal measurement either. I did get weighed every visit, and the OB would measure DS's growth by looking at the ultrasound and measuring the bones. Then he'd graph it to make sure everything was on track.

I started getting measured at 23 weeks - so my 27 week appt was my second time and she measured and said " baby is growing!" ... But I imagine he he/she is looking via ultrasound they don't necessarily need the measuring tape.

It was funny, my doc did make a joke about the measuring how it seems old fashioned - but it works... So maybe some docs just think there are better ways?

my doc didnt start measurements until 30 weeks so perhaps it's just that? i think it's easier to measure when you are bigger.

I first got measured at 24 weeks, but that could also be because he was on the smaller side at the 20 week ultrasound and they did say they were going to keep track of his growth.

My doctor starts measuring at 20 weeks. I am sure the ultrasound would probably give a more accurate picture of how the baby is developing then the fundal height.

My doctor has measured me at every appointment since the very beginning (week 9).
