I am constantly unsettled by the fact that one piece of a puzzle is downstairs and the rest is up or that there is a piece of play food in the playroom instead of with the play kitchen or that one of the trains has strayed from the train box.
Does this happen to you? Does it bother you? Do you just let it be or do you have to organize right away? It's such a time suck, so I try to only do it once a week. But it drives me nuts!

I try to keep up with it. We do have several catch all bins that I sort out once every few months.

Yeah, it drives me nuts when puzzle pieces are missing. I also assemble Mr. Potato Head before I sleep so my LO can rip him apart in the morning!

Yes! We have the various shape sorters and stacking toys, the other day I found pieces in my bed! I hate to see pieces get lost, and feel the need to hunt them down.

It drives me nuts! Usually it's because LO took some random piece to his bedroom and left it there. I try to take care of it when I'm carrying other stuff up or down but sometimes it takes a while to get to it and meanwhile the random piece is taunting me.

This drives me insane! I try to stay on top of it as much as I am able, every so often I go through and fix all of the craziness though. My least favorite phase ever is when they think it is fun to fill their shopping cart/backpack/purse etc with 4,927 random little things.

Drives me crazy, BUT, since Ellie has started to do clean-up all by herself I have chosen to let it go. They are (primarily) her things, and if she wants a big jumble that's fine, as long as it fits Mr. T and my general perameters for what constitutes "clean." With Lorelei's things I expect them to go in the right spot, which is simplified by having one place to put them and few enough things out at a time to not make that so taxing. We are planning to do some thinking about reducing the amount out at a time since Ellie is old enough that she doesn't want or need to play with so many things to hold her interest and Lorelei is small enough that it doesn't matter so much.

YES! A stacking cup, puzzle piece, etc. when it's not in its place/bin drives me aboslutely nuts! I try to collect it all daily, but that doesn't happen all the time.

YES. Toys are strewn all over the house and in random bins or toy boxes. It drives me mad.

Ah, it feels so good to have compatriots in my neurosis. I feel like I'm fighting a battle with these odd stray things... Like after I write this I found a Lego with the blocks... Grr!
I agree that these little bits an pieces are just taunting us, daring is to return them home. It's a constant schlep up and down the stairs!

This is one of my biggest pet peeves...I settle everything up at the end of the week before swapping out our toy rotation...and several times throughout the week.

YES!!! I get so bothered when I can't find a piece to one of their toys, especially puzzles. I found a few pieces under the couch when our furniture was going into storage and now it's going into my suitcase among other toys I found when the movers came. I do try to at least get things put in the "right" place after they go to bed but not lately. Although, I do need to find my alarm clock!! I keep telling them it's not a toy...

Yes, absolutely!! I've been obsessively searching for a missing magnadoodle magnet stamp for days! I really, really like everything to be kept together. I try to relax my slightly OCD tendencies on this but it's hard!

Funny! I try to do it once a week too. It just so happens it is the exact same time LO finds all of her previously invisible toys have become terribly fascinating and wants to touch everything I am putting away.

I used to be so anal about keeping DS's things organized.
That has since gone out the window. We need a good system and to start over. His room is always messy.

I used to be anal about it as well, but then I realized they are his toys, not mine, so what is the difference if there is a puzzle in his book bin? The only time I pick up anymore is the night before the cleaning lady comes, just to get the stuff up off the floor.
