Clementine.
Does it age well in a quirky but classic way or is it too cutesy?

I think so! Especially for the coming generations - there really is no name that will be off limits in the future in terms of the resume test I'd have to think with all of the creative names you see in this past decade and going forward!

it! It's one we're still considering for LO if it's a girl! Definately passes the test!

I think it does! I like it (coming from someone who's drawn to traditional names).

I think it sounds very cutesy/hippy-dippy if I'm being completely honest with you. Saying "The Honorable Clementine Smith/Jones/Whatever" doesn't sound right unless you're in a very Bohemian area imo.

I think it's great and passes my personal "is it rad?" test. We just named our baby Clementine. (And I do think, should she want to be a judge or senator or whatever, that her name will not stop her).

I think it could depend on your last name. A strong surname and I think it passes any test.

@Ra: was our #1 pick if J was a girl
lots of negative feedback from family/friends though
I still love it

I think it is gorgeous for a girl, and I do know someone who called their son Clementine. It definitely passes the resume test.

My great aunt's name was clementine (not that she was a senator/president, but to show that it can transcend time...it never seemed "cutesy" on a seventy year old. She went by Clem).

I think it does. By the time clementine is applying for jobs she will be applying with
Rosie
Poppy
Piper
Ruby
Neveah
Magnolia
Isla
Harper
Penelope
Etc. I don't think it stands out amongst those, for example. There's so many names now.
ETA: I worked a job when the boss was named Jennifer. She overlooked anyone applying with her name or my name (mine is also super popular 80s name) because it would be confusing. I think a memorable name is good

I love it! I've read conflicting things about resume names anyway. 'Weird' is not good, but 'memorable' is a plus, so I say go for it!

Only if you're from old money or celebrities in my opinion. Same thing with "bunny" or "poppy". That's just my opinion though if you love the name go for it!

I love that name and I think by the time our LOs are grown they are going to think "traditional" names sound old fashioned. (I.e. The way we think of a name like Beverly or Debbie now, will be how they think of a name like Stephanie or Jennifer)

I think it's a lovely granny chic name that passes the resume test. (ETA--but not the president test, but who cares?)
@Modern Daisy: respectfully disagree but on another note, love the idea of the proletariat appropriating old-money WASP names.

I think as long as you can pronounce it (and reasonably spell it), it passes these days. We did a unique first name for our daughter but paired it with a very classic simple middle name. She can always go by her middle name if she really wants.

I like it. I do think of the Deep South when I hear it bc the few people I've known have had strong southern accents.

Popping back in because I'm so confused by the "president test". We have a president named Barack Obama and presidents generally go by last names, not first. It seems like a silly way to test out your name choices. A person isn't going to *not* be president solely based on the style of their first name.

Oh my Darling....heh.I think it's a cute name and I like it, but do I think it sounds cute? Yes. Am I having trouble picturing a woman in leadership with that first name? Yes. I'm not sure it has a good nickname, because "Clem" really isn't, lol.

I think it's adorable, and passes the test. It's a classic name, very Southern Belle. Honestly, I think a Clementine has a better "resume" quality than names that might be more "normal" but spelled differently (y and i where they normally wouldn't be!)

@Ra: did I miss an announcement?!
It doesn't pass for me, but I think it's cute!

We had planned on naming DD1 this but changed our minds in the third trimester. DH hates cutesy but loved this name.

@Modern Daisy: I agree. I think if it's a family name, it would work, but chosen outside of that I'm not a fan.

Resume yes. To me the resume test is a) racially ambiguous and b) not too unique/ creative.
President maybe, I'd have to see it a few times in a slogan for me to vote for a President Clementine.

@Smurfette: @Applesandbananas: No! We are talking about trying again next month though and were just discussing baby names last night. We agree easily on boy names but have a really difficult time finding girl names we both like. We both like Clementine but were wondering if it's too "out there."

@Ra: Wow! Maybe we will both get pregnant next month
