Reading the attached/detached garage thread made me think of cars with remote start. Do you have it on your car?
Whenever it's cold or snowy outside, I always wish I had remote start on my car. My car is older and doesn't have it. If I were to get it, I would have to get an after-market one.
When I buy my next car, I will make sure it has it. Or at least, pay to have it put in.

I am getting one installed on Tuesday! I'm so very excited! The winters are very cold here and I've always been bad about starting my car ahead of time. With LO it will be necessary, so I happy to report that DH bought me a remote car starter as a push gift

With a detached garage you'd need a way to open the garage too! Otherwise you'd start it with the remote & fill the garage with exhaust.
I don't have one, but living in new England, I wish I did! I bought a clearance DIY one, but it was for older cars, oops!

No. But I'm in Florida so we don't really NEED one. I guess it would be nice for the ac, but not necessary.

Yup! Thought it was un-necessary when we bought a car that happened to have it. Now I wouldn't be without it. I'm in Texas and love it for the AC. I have a short drive to get my LO from daycare. I use the remote start to let the car run while I'm picking her up, to try to get the car cool before she gets in.

We purchased a new vehicle last winter, and had it installed before we picked it up! Love it, for both heat, and AC! I didn't think I would use it for the AC, but preggo this summer, it was lovely at times!

I have an aftermarket installed. Will start the car from up to a mile away. Means I don't have to leave work to start my car at lunch time in the dead of winter to keep it from freezing up.. A lovely invention!

OMG - they told us about this when we bought the car, but I would have forgotten if it weren't for this thread! I actually had to go Googling and then ask DH. Supposedly there's a way to control it from my phone so I'll have to figure this out.

We thought about it but Mercedes discouraged it since it's an aftermarket product. It's also an extra $1500. My car is in the garage anyway. It is DH who has to park outside!

I had one on my old car but not my current one. My lease is up next year and will be buying my next car, so it will have one for sure!

Yes, my new vehicle has it, but unfortunately I don't really see a time when I will use it. We have a attached garage so my car never gets too cold in winter, and I park in an underground garage at work as well, so no cold vehicle then either. I guess if we are ever at a friend's house or our parent's house I can start it up to warm it up before getting in it!

If we ever move back to Montana, I'll have a remote start installed with both cars. My husband's truck has remote start, and I think it's totally necessaary when it gets below zero degrees! We don't need right now, though; it never gets that cold here.

Those who have it/want it, can you fill me in on what this is useful for? When they told us our car had this, we looked at each other and said it was nice but we weren't sure how we'd ever use it.

Yes!! My car definitely has one. Although I park in the garage now, and I probably won't use it at all. But I do have an attached garage so I will have to walk there, but it's better than parking it outside!

@SpanielLove: My car is not garaged while at work. On hot/cold days I will start it as I head out to get the heat or A/C started before I actually get to my car.
When I get to daycare to get LO at the end of the day. I turn the car off, lock and then remote start to allow the heat/AC to run while I'm getting LO so she can get into a better heated/cooled environment.
When walking out of a store/mall, I always start the car immediately.
I live in Texas and when the car is outside during the day, the temperature is consistently over 100 inside the car. Anything i can do to start to cool it down before I get in is worth it to me.

Yep and I love it. I can't imagine life in MI without it. Summer and Winter are pretty extreme here.

Yes, thank god! Florida summers would suck without it. And now with the baby, I feel like it's so worth it for him not have to sweat his booty off in the infant car seat for 15 minutes until the car cools off. I crank the A/C down before I get out and start it like 10 minutes before we leave.

My 2008 limited had it & it was awesome, my 2011 limited didn't come with it GRRR! Luckily we have an attached garage but still it'd be nice to not have to run out & start it

@MamaG: If this winter is worse than last winter I'll definitely be appreciating it! I don't think it gets as cold in NJ as it does in other parts but we still get some weather. Thanks for explaining this to me!
