For the most part everyone just calls them by the name we gave them. My step mil does try to call P penny, which I hate, but we don't see them often. On the other side, my dad dad called ALL us grandkids by different names & they were always pretty off the wall! Ie. G's name is Irving & my name is a concoction of about 5 names put together... it was always enjoyed & accepted though.

G's bio-dad was a 2nd & he really hated how the whole name thing went. His dad went by Tom & he ended up going by Tommy which made him feel like a little kid even when grown. I'm sure the whole 2nd/3rd/Junior circumstance creates a whole new level of stress when it comes to family & what a child is called. Hope you can get your family to stop going against you guys though.. that was peeve me tons!

My mil refused to call my older LO by her name for the first month...she called her the name she liked better.

It's demanded that they respect the nicknames, but I think that the way we introduced them is what helped. DS is a FIFTH (for the love of god...), so he kind of has to go by his nickname or else there would be massive confusion (his name is John, he goes by Jack). DD is Elizabeth, and Ellie just fits with a little baby, so that way easy. Sorry that your family is being so difficult!

DS's dad calls DS by a nickname that DS hates. It's derived from his name, but he prefers to be called his full name. It drives us both crazy that he won't stop calling him that, even after we've both asked him to stop.

urgh that would be annoying. I was worried people would try to put his two intials together and call him PJ, which I hate ( no offense to any Pj's out there) but luckily they didn't!

Yep. We specified that if a nickname was to be used, it would be Charlie. People have stuck to that if they choose, but mostly everyone uses her full name.

My mom has a nickname for her that is different than the one we use. I don't mind, it's cute and I think it wil be special when she is older. My mom asked me if it was okay

When I was pregnant we had big issues with my FIL changing the middle name whenever he said it - he wanted us to use his first name (which is also DH's middle name and our nephew who is FIL's other gradson's middle name - and we really didn't want our LO to have the same middle name as his cousin!) That was quite annoying, but he dropped it before LO was born.

I thought that Landon was pretty much un-nickname-able, but my brother found a way. Just drop the 'n' and it becomes a Star Wars reference! lol. Doesn't bother me though because I know he's just kidding.

She's not here yet, but my dad tries out a different ridiculous nickname every time he sees me. He's totally kidding though - I think they'll be very good about using her full name when she's here.

His current nickname for her? Shortening Kennedy to 'Edy'. He says its "hip".

@septemberlove: We established before they were born (team green) that if it was a boy and a girl, they would be named John and Elizabeth, but they would go by Jack and Ellie. When they were born, we introduced them, as the walked in the door to my recovery room, as Jack and Ellie. Maybe it helps that a) there are a so many Johns in this family, another one would be confusing and b) Elizabeth is a long name- half the syllables, and fitting for a little girl. I'm so sorry they are not respecting your wishes! I'd be annoyed if everyone started calling Jack John. It would be frustrating. I especially think it would annoy me if DH loved the idea of a Junior so much that that is what he's calling him- it's disrespectful to call him something else.
