I grew up in the suburbs, and we had a porch-like front step area. I spent hours there, hanging out with friends. It seems though that porches are less common these days... maybe because of crime? It's too bad, because I feel like porches really help bring local communities together. Plus they're great during a balmy evening when you want to enjoy the weather with family and friends.

Yes we do. We hang out on it fairly often since we have a porch swing and rocking chairs. I'd like to get fans installed at some point

Nope, but we have a vestibule. The covered entry is great when it downpours and you're fumbling with the house key.

Yes and I love it. We plan to get rocking chairs soon. We live in the country on a highway so we can't really socialize with neighbors though. DS loves sitting there and watching the cars pass.

Technically yes, but it's not a cool/picturesque one. We only ever hang out on the back patio, though, since it's fenced back there for our dog.

Yes, I love it. In the summer it really is a good way to bring people together especially since we don't really have much of a front yard. So it's easy for people to come by and say hi.

Yes and it's my favourite spot at my house! I have my coffee out there and read in the morning when it's nice weather. We have dinner out there with friends and family and I often have my afternoon glass of wine on the porch. All the houses on my street have a front porch and we always are talking to neighbours as they walk by. Unfortunately, all that sits on our porch right now is a pile of snow

We don't have a porch, but we do have a deck in the back! We have breakfast, lunch and dinner outside in the summer. I love it.

@HLK208: thanks! I love our place but unfortunately we are looking to move. Too small for a growing family and our plan is to move before we have another LO! I'll miss our porch.

We actually have a side porch, our "front" door is on the side of our house so the front just has a bunch of windows.

No, but we have a small pavered patio area out front. My dream house would have a wide wrap around front porch with a swing and comfy seating. I am such a sucker for front porches, I think they are great!

Yes, but it's very small. Only room for 1 or 2 chairs out there but it's empty now.

We have a small front step, but it's not covered. We have a huge back porch though (and enter from the back door, due to our side garage). I'd love to have a wood deck area built out around our front porch one day!

We do!
A lot of the houses in our hood have them (we are in the 'inner suburbs--not downtown but our house is 100 years old and in an area that is now part of Toronto). They have been FABULOUS for meeting neighbours and getting to know people. Lots of wine and visits in the summer!

Yes! I love it. Spend so much time on the front porch in the warmer months. DS and I sit out there watching people and cars go by. And, we're in the city, too!

We have a front porch and a huge covered back porch area. I lived in the back yard for July/August and September before it got cold!! Our front porch has 2 red big chairs on it and we sat out a few times in the summer. We only moved in in July. Both were huge selling features.

We live in an apartment with a balcony but my future house definitely has a porch (in my imagination, anyway, haha).

Yes, a front porch was on our list of wants when we were house shopping. We live in a neighborhood with a lot front porches, I really like it.
