Yes. I never had one until I got married. My husband is always nervous leaving me alone at night without one. He's a bit of a worry-wart, but it really has given me peace of mind over the years.

Jealous! I'd love one, but we rent. As soon as we buy I'm getting one put in. We live in a good part of town, but I've watched too many crazy movies/TV specials!

Yep! With baby and I hold alone when DH travels I wanted it to make me feel more secure. I feel safe on the neighborhood but you never know.

For now, our alarm is our dog! Haha. I do hope we can invest in one in the future.

I feel comfortable in our neighborhood but love the peace of mind ! And we can control it all from our phones - including heat/air, turn on lamps, lock our doors , AND they gave us a camera that we can watch on our phones. We will use it for an extra baby monitor !

@photojane: vivint. A friend recommended them to us ! 100.00 installation and we got all listed above plus glass break alarms and smoke detector monitoring for 67.00 monthly. It probably sounds like we live in a super sketchy area - we don't !!! The price was so low we just went all out !

Definitely. Had one my whole life. We pay extra to have it hooked up to police and fire, too

Nope-- but we have always been in rentals. We are basically on the 3rd floor of a building with pretty good security now so I'm not worried at all (though our neighbor does have an ADT sticker on his door). Or old apartment had an entrance right to the sidewalk but I never really worried about it, and never had a problem. It was a really good neighborhood, though, and if I was home alone I always did feel better with my dog around.

Yes! My house was broken into when I first moved in. I always have it on

No. I've never lived in a house with one. Thankfully we live in a safe area.

Yes! We just got it before K was born. We live in a very safe city, next to 2 retired cops nonetheless, but single-story and our backyard backs up to the school and park walkway so DH worried the wall is easy to jump.

Yepp! We actually won one at my brother's school auction! It included installation, the actual system and service for a year. After the year we still keep the system... We can just decide to pay for the actual service (where police are called, etc). We love it!

Nope. But I wish we did because I'm a scaredy cat. Maybe when we buy a house we'll get one.

No. We live in a nice area and most of our neighbors are like my parents age. Not to imply that things cannot happen, even in a nice neighborhood. I'm thinking positive.

Yep. They come in the form of two cute fluffy dogs... seriously. We actually disabled the alarm system that came with the house. Didn't want it and since somebody is always home, we don't really need it. Plus, working in Law Enforcement I can tell you, they hardly work like you think they will. So many false alarms and when it is the real thing, by the time the PD is notified and gets out there, the guys is usually gone.
So, looks like I will be using my sensitive to strange noises pups and my gun.

We just set it up, I was regretting it because it seems like such a hassle to turn off/on, whatever but this thread reassures me a little.

nope... i don't know anyone who has one actually!
maybe eventually we will get one, but I'm a huge wimp, so if the alarm ever accidentally went off when I was home alone I'd probably drop dead of a heart attack!

Yes we do. I live in a nice neighborhood but my next door neighbor was burglarized during the day last year. I was actually at home on mat leave at the time and heard a noise, but I thought the neighbors were just rolling out their trash can. Turns out they were not home and burglars were scaling the fence and stealing tv, laptops, etc. We activated the alarm right away after that.

No, I don't think we need one - one of the great things about living in the Midwest.
There was one leftover from the first owner (we are the third). Every time there was a thunder storm or something that would reset the power, the house alarm would go off - usually at 3 am.... Not amused. We finally ripped it out after happening a dozen or so times.

Yes, and it isn't just for burglary protection. Ours also monitors carbon monoxide and smoke/fire.
