When your LO says things like hair, pants, hand - do they say them properly or do they sound like a southerner because they've added a syllable?

All the time! I have no idea why -- but he actually says "hand" like "hay-and." Never taught him that!

DS does this with "here". He can't say the letter R yet so it comes out hee-yuh. I joked with DH that now I know where the Boston accent came from.

@ShootingStar: Haha! I'm from Boston but have no accent. I think my son sounds like he's from Southie or something when he turns 1 syllable into 2.

@pregnantbee: DH is from Boston too (and we live just outside the city) but he doesn't have an accent either.

Yes! Most often with names and turning two syllables into three, so Declan will be Dec-a-lan and Finley will be Fin-eh-ley.

Sometimes! His most common one is when he says he wants to get down. It's "get-tuh down". I have no idea why!!

Yaaaasssss. We are Northerners living in the South and my LO has a TOTAL Southern drawl. I never noticed it until my parents pointed it out and now I hear it all the time.
