I swear, I have followed a dozen or so recipes EXACTLY and they always end up a bit burned. I have started tamping down the temperature a bit, and not waiting until the full length of time to check on it.
I think our oven runs hot.
Does your oven run hot or cold? How do you adjust your recipes to accommodate?

My husband recently (well a year ago, but it's an old oven) changed the temperature detector thing in our oven and now it seems really accurate. Before we fixed it it ran hot.

Hot. I finally got banana bread to bake without burning on the edges by turning the temp down by 20 degrees and baking it for 10 less minutes. I need to get a thermometer to register the true temp of the oven.

Ours runs hot - If it says to bake it at 350, I typically set it to 325-330.

Ours runs almost exactly 50 degrees hot. I got an oven thermometer after way too many burned or overcooked things and it made such a difference. They are cheap, too, so well worth the money since you will be saving so much food from burning! Never tried to actually adjust the oven temp detector-- I just set it for 50 degrees lower than I really want it.

Ours runs cold! I have to add extra time to most recipes. I think it is the original oven from 1964.

I always have to adjust it, it runs hot. If it says 425 I put it on 400 instead, sometimes even a little less.

@pui: us too. I didn't know it was called tempt detector.
We called people to come fix our oven because of this. They changed a part inside of it because they said the fuse was too short so more heat was getting in than should be.
Now it's perfect. I even made cookies the other day which I haven't been able to so successfully in a years.

Mine runs about twenty degrees Celsius cold so I usually have to turn the temp up
