DH likes to veto my ideas.

The only suggestion DH came up with was the middle name 'Hurricane'.

he would veto the majority, and then once he found a name HE liked he wouldn't entertain any more names....that is why we went to the hospital with two names for DD

He had a few he liked that I absolutely did not like lol but they were few and far between.
Halfway through I said, okay come up with your top 5 - that you love, and I'll come up with my top 5, and we'll compare. That's how we ended up coming to agreement.

He comes up with the weirdest, strangest names.... Then tells me my choices are all trailer trash. Strange boy

@GrapeCrush: whose name did you end up using?
@Mrs. Oatmeal: it has spunk!
@loveisstrange: DH just vetoed Josephine because there are a lot of J names in his family. I told him that's a ridiculous reason to veto a name.
honeydew / 7586 posts
He came up with B's name. Everything else (particularly when it came to girl names) he vetoed.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@Mrs. Pen: that's what we ended up doing for R. We decided on Audrey and then changed our minds at the hospital.
@travelgirl1: haha, I can't get DH to come up with any ideas of his own!

My DH came up with DD's first and middle names! But I was more lenient because I picked DS's first and middle.

Hahaha. I was totally the veto-happy one. To be fair, DH claimed to like almost everything. Someone had to be picky!
honeydew / 7230 posts
He was pretty active in the name-choosing. He vetoed a lot of my ideas, but also threw a few options into the hat too. In the end both names we chose were both ones we both really liked, but wasn't either person's original first choice.
nectarine / 2358 posts
He has come up with our expected LO's first 2 names. He also has names for our next DD and DS! He's pretty good at this, I have to say. He does veto though.
grapefruit / 4823 posts
@swedishfish: for DD: his....BUT, when we got to the hospital he told me that the final decision was being left up to me. As soon as I saw her she was so the name he picked...trust me, I wasn't pleased haha
thankfully I liked the names he settled on. he did the same thing for DS(#1), but I really liked that name too. he just had a much stronger preference for it.

@swedishfish: DH vetoed Norah because he said it was too close to rhyming with his last name. I told him that was a dumb reason too. lol. In the end, I gave him a list of ones I liked and we narrowed it down from there. Once we had it down to like 5 names, he gave me real opinions on them.

Mine told me he didn't want to come up with names because he just had a hard time thinking of names independently. He asked me to make a long list, from which he would make a short list, and then we'd decide together. That worked really well for us! (I gave him 28, he only vetoed 8, then we worked together to get it down to 5 and debated those for a few months).

He throws out some weird ones. Gyronopholis, for example. I shut that one down. He vetoed a lot of mine except for our boy name.

Vetoes, mostly because he thinks it was a character on a tv show... For everything. I finally told him he watched too much tv!!
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@swedishfish: Right? Kennedy Hurricane just has a ring to it.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
he mostly just yeas/nays but he did come up with a variant of what #1 LOs name is and that is how we came up with hers.
nectarine / 2932 posts
Vetoes! I wish he cared a little less, to be honest. He'll come up with a name he likes and then clingggggggggg to it. He is horrible at compromising at names.
honeydew / 7295 posts
He just vetoes or comes up with silly pretend names like Fish Hat! Makes me crazy. Luckily we had names we agreed on early last time (I presented them). This time we started a bit even whilt TTC and he is just teasing the whole time. It's too early anyway but I have a feeling we are gonna have a hard battle ahea particularly if we have another boy!
coconut / 8472 posts
He pretty much only vetoed. Though he did suggest the middle name "wait for it" from HIMYM.
coconut / 8475 posts
Veto. I told him for every veto he'd better give me a suggestion in place of it. It didn't work. The guy had ZERO ideas. He'd say, "I don't know what to name him, but not THAT (insert my suggestion here)." It was super annoying.
pomelo / 5720 posts
Lots of vetoes and only a few suggestions (most were a heck-no from me). In the end we have agreed on a couple but they aren't either of our first choices.
apricot / 274 posts
He hated every name I suggested and offered no ideas. LO's name is literally the only name he liked. Thank God I loved it, too!
nectarine / 2220 posts
Only vetoes, no suggestions. I pretty much just read him all the names from 1-150 in popularity and the ONLY name he liked was Natalie... so here we are.
pomelo / 5469 posts
He never comes up with ideas and mostly vetos mine...though I proposed a name for another girl today and he agreed!
cherry / 120 posts
DH comes up with silly names like Touchdown or Jackie Robinson. He also really likes Kurt after Kurt Vonnegut, but I am not a fan. But he did come up with our favorite girl name so far, Scarlett. So it's a toss up. He vetoes a lot of my names, though.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Unless it's his name, he vetoes my ideas. Good thing it's all just hypothetical or else my kid would be NoName.
nectarine / 2079 posts
Usually he just vetoes. I try to make him come up with a list, but he never puts in the energy. If I force him to spout out a name they are names that were pretty popular in my generation and make me cringe with countless associations.

@swedishfish: Was just coming to this thread to say that for boys, DH has ideas (and good ones!). For girls, he just vetoes. Then I saw that we are soulmates--my DH is veto-ing Josephine, too! He doesn't even have a reason other than he doesn't like it. GAH! I'm still fighting for it, though.
